Terrible experience

Reviewed 6 december, 2021

Glen Cove Mansion staff are completely disorganized. Nothing seems to be well run. This may have been a good venue at a point in time however it is not any longer. The venue is dirty, there were multiple spiders in our room. The bathroom walls were spackled but not painted. The floor in the room did not meet the carpet in the hallway. Just incredibly bad workmanship, upkeep of the mansion and grounds and disorganized staff.

Holiday Rip Off

My wife and I just returned from two nights at The Mansion at Glen Cove, visiting family for the Thanksgiving weekend. The highlight of the experience was the close proximity of the hotel to our family gathering. Beyond that, there's not much good to report about this place. The original Mansion was obviously something in its time, but is rather forlorn now, suffering from neglect of maintenance and upkeep. The room itself was satisfactory, the bathroom having been obviously updated, but overall something akin to a Marriott Courtyard room. A couple of general observations.... The room above us apparently had hardwood floors rather than carpet, so every step taken reverberated into our room until 1am on our first night. Our second night we were treated to some fellow patrons running up and down the halls banging on our door after midnight. Obnoxious to say the least. I would have called the front desk to complain except it wasn't staffed when we returned to the hotel at about 10:30p. In general I saw no sign of( (nor was I told of) a dining area or bar for breakfast, dinner, or a drink had we been so inclined, which we weren't. No valet. The only employees I saw were the people at the front desk.... It was all very strange. But the highlight (dripping with sarcasm) of staying at this downtrodden venue and suffering their minimal amenities and service was paying $350 a night! It was worth about $125... At most! We felt that we were taken advantage of because it was Thanksgiving weekend. Things would have to change dramatically for us to consider returning.

Outdated & dilapidated. Needs help :(

Gravely in need of major TLC. Dilapidated… lots of potential but until they gets things up to speed, this is a 3-star on its BEST DAYS. Broken window shutters, stains on hall carpets, broken floor tiles throughout. Not to mention even the staff doesn’t know when the restaurant/bar is open…? Changes all the time apparently. The hotel room portion feels like they just hired a Motel 8 builder to slap some rooms attached to the mansion. Aside from the cleanliness and comfort of the bedding, this place is a bust. Hope they fix it up soon!

First last and only time visiting this hotel

This hotel is incredibly unsafe regarding COVID. Aside from my child, there were many other small children in the hotel, who cannot get vaccinated yet and the entire hotel is full of staff and guests who do not wear masks or abide by any safety measures. This was the unsafest place I've seen since the pandemic began. The indoor pool seemed very dirty (water itself) and the paint was chipping off the bottom. The jacuzzi was ridiculously too hot to the point of causing serious burns on the skin, and that is only when it was actually even turned on. And when turned on it is filled with pieces of chipped paint bubbling up. Also, there is a limit of 10 persons in the swimming pool, and reservations are needed, but this was not always adhered to. And is a ridiculous "safety" measure given we saw zero persons wearing masks anywhere in this hotel. The pool table is not even, the felt needs changing, the nets are broken making balls fall out, there are balls missing, there is half a dozen pool cues, only one of which actually has a tip but even that one is chipped and crooked, and only one single chalk is on the table. Given how laughably little pool table accessories cost compared to the cost of stay at this hotel, this is just offensive to see, that something so cheap and easily and quickly replaceable is obviously neglected only and I mean only because management doesn't care. The sad state of the indoor pool may be a more costly and time consuming repair, but simple basic pool table accessories- that just makes me feel like, as a guest, that management and staff simply don't care one bit about me and my experience as a guest, and instead they just want to collect the money. It's an embarassing, 2-star motel impression. Same can be said about the sad, stale, embarassing "continental breakfast". Also, while it is understandable that the hotel will make more money perhaps from large groups, I feel that the staff should not let me feel like I am less valued as a guest because I am a single family guest staying on some days when a large party is present in the hotel. At least pretend you care we are also there! The room was very very smelly when we arrived, and was not thoroughly cleaned. The A/C and heater is so loud that it beats the purpose of a quiet getaway on these beautiful peaceful grounds. The grounds are dreamy, the hotel could be so great with better care. For now, I have no reason to return really.

Renovate or tear it down

A once beautiful estate in near disrepair. A tacky catering hall that happens to have overnight rooms. This is no longer a resort and certainly not a hotel. Avoid staying here at all costs. Service staff is friendly but very green and not trained.
