We were travelling through and had booked lunch via the website.
We ate outside as it was a lovely day. We had a few days of eating quite a lot so we weren't overly hungry so we tried all of the nipples from the menu.
Each item was beautifully presented and the taste...sublime!
Absolutely life enhancing

A window table here, on a Sunday morning for brunch, just a delight. A true test of a good place to eat is whether in the process you feel that your self esteem and wellbeing are boosted, or demoted, and the Miller of Mansfield scores highly for the former. Open windows and excellent people watching, not busy, quiet and unobtrusive background music, all set the scene for a pleasant experience. Beautifully ironed and starched napkins. Nice crockery. Polite and gentle staff. The food was good too. My daughter had smoked trout and scrambled eggs, then toast and jam. I had yogurt with fruit jam on it, then one of the best croissants ever, with two cups of coffee. It was really very good, and such a pleasant change to leave somewhere without any sense of disappointment about some aspect of the food served or the environment in which it was eaten.First class!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our experimental brunch a success.

our monthly breakfast club, we had our normal English breakfast, plus we wanted to try the smoked trout soaked in whiskey with scrabbled eggs yes was all very nice smoked trout was lovely, the breakfast was nice adequate portion but over all none of it came out hot, staff was nice, plenty of room ( social distancing ) , nice seating area outside, this was 9.30 in the morning so the atmosphere at night would be a lot different.
i like to go back in the evening to see what it is like when it was busier, but over all 7 out of 10

Here for 2 nights on a walking holiday. Sweet wee room with a big comfortable bed in this historic inn. The standard of service would have been good at any time, but so soon after lockdown, it was really outstanding. The food is fantastic. My only words of warning are that if you eat too much of the delicious sourdough bread with your starter you won’t have room for the puddings. You need to have the desserts too!
Restaurant with rooms with Michelin guide recommended food

Visited here for a couple of nights on a walking holiday. The food was superb - Nick can definitely cook and his wife is a lovely hostess. It was very welcoming and even mid week the restaurant was full. We had a lovely food - the attention to detail and the imagination in the food was amazing - from the home made bread with smoked bacon butter to the little amuse bouche bowls, to the delicious potatoes which were layered and then baked and fried plus the tasty steak, turbot, chicken etc we had and the marvellous rhubarb dessert with white chocolate which was so good I had it both nights - we couldn't fault the food. The accommodation was quirky - it wasn't absolutely great though. We booked through a walking company and paid to upgrade to a superior room as we thought that would be bigger as my husband is 6ft 4 but unfortunately we were in Shillingford the smallest superior room which was really not what we would call superior - the bed was too small for him to stretch out and he couldn't use the shower as he couldn't get underneath it and the room was in the eaves so he kept banging his head - it was also very hot. The bathroom didn't really work as it was crammed into a very small eaves space with an overbath shower with a very small curtain that didn't go around the whole space so water went everywhere - over the floor, the loo, the side table and the loo rolls and the whole room was swimming in water - this meant that it smelled very damp and of standing water. Would we return? Yes we would but we would ensure that we got a proper superior room which more space!
