Great family trip

I was nervous to stay based off of the rough reviews on here, but we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the family suite room with the two queen beds. Our room was ready when we arrived at 3:30 and checkin was easy. You wear a wristband for the entire stay and you can charge things to it and it is also your room key. We really liked that. You can leave your room without needing to grab a wallet/purse/room key etc. The room was very clean. The beds & pillows were comfortable. There was a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. (The room coffee wasn’t great, but there is Starbucks downstairs). The concierge was great and delivered a few things to our room upon request very quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Food: We did not get the meal plan, and that was a good idea for us. We brought milk/juice/snacks/fruits with us for a small breakfast in the room and that was perfect. We had the buffet once. It was pricey, wide variety of food, but give the taste of the food a 3/5 at the buffet. We ate the pizza from the pizzeria place twice and it was very good and reasonably priced. (16.99 for a large pepperoni) Waterpark: The temperature of the water/area was good. It was definitely packed, but that’s to be expected as we were there on a holiday (MLK) weekend. The lines were never too long to ride the slides. We loved the arcade and dance party at night. The magi quest was fun for our 8 year old. Our kids (almost 3 & 8) absolutely loved this place and can’t wait to go back. As parents, we had a good time too with our kids. It’s pricey, which we were expecting, but we enjoyed it. We will be back!

Underwhelming

My daughter had wanted to go to Great Wolf for her 8th birthday. We live in the area, but I really wanted to make it happen for her. We spent 24 hours at Great Wolf and spent over $500. The experience was sub par. Their main attractions are the different quests, but when we arrived they were out of wands. The activity that should have taken 3-6 hours of our evening was not available. My daughter did not want to do the mining, so we settled on Build a Bear. The selection was very small and the employee told us they got the product from Build a Bear and marked it up for Great Wolf. I looked online and the bear we made at Great Wolf we could have made at Build a Bear down the street for half the price. My daughter and I spent time in at the waterpark and in the arcade which were okay. We liked the pizza at Hungry as a Wolf, but the food in at Moose on the Loose was just okay buffet food. The biggest issue I had was an interaction with a supervisor at the main restaurant. I am a breast feeding mom, but the baby did not come with us to Great Wolf so I pumped while I was there. Our check out was at 11AM so I needed to store my milk from 11AM to 4PM while we spent her birthday at the lodge. All the milk was stored in breast milk storage bags/bottles and inside a wet/dry pump bag. I called down to the front desk and they advised me to go to one of the food service locations and ask for them to store it until 4PM. I went to Moose on the Loose where we’d had dinner and planned to have brunch. I was directed to speak with the supervisor who was incredibly rude and acted put out. She made it a point to tell me 4 different times that the front desk had a refrigerator. She acted as though this was a ridiculous request and told me that she needed to check if she could store it because it was “bodily fluid.” After about 5 minutes she came back from the back of house and begrudgingly agreed to take my pump bag. She asked me when I planned to leave and said I’d have to find a way to get the milk at 4PM because she would be closed and that again the front desk had a refrigerator, so she does not understand why they asked me to come to her. I was incredibly frustrated by this interaction. Great Wolf is a family resort. There were babies everywhere and I find it hard to believe that they’ve never run into accommodating a breast feeding mother. I spoke with the front desk and explained the interaction I had with the Moose on the Loose supervisor. They assured me they would speak with her and I asked for them to retrieve my milk and store it elsewhere after speaking with her. I was told that at 4PM the front desk would have my storage bag. When we went to leave I was told that they spoke with the supervisor, but that she did not have a chance to bring my storage bag to them. So instead she had my milk the entire time. They called over to Moose on the Loose and the same employee I had the negative experience with brought me the bag. I left a review when I got my follow up email from Great Wolf detailing my experience. A retail manager reached out to speak with me. Our schedules did not line up so I spoke with another employee. She simply asked about my experience with the quests and Build a Bear so she could “improve for future guest.” I told her I was also frustrated about the breast milk storage and she said she’d have the guest services supervisor reach out to me. They never did. All this to say my experience with Great Wolf was underwhelming. I could have saved a lot of money and done all the activities separately for my daughter.

First off, I would like to say that my daughter has been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Georgia and spoke very highly of it, so my expectations for this facility were high. Particularly high, considering three rooms for 2 nights cost over $6000. SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. Now keep in mind, they do not allow outside food or drink in the indoor waterpark facility, so you basically have to eat their food. I ordered some lunch for my family on the app, had to go pick it up. It was one cheese pizza, one vegetable pizza, 24 wings, and three salads. This cost my party $112. The pizzas arrived completely raw. No utensils or napkins were given or offered. They were actually out of napkins entirely. No condiments or dressings for the salads were offered. Unacceptable for $112. The kids running the show could CARE LESS. On our first day, I had reserved a cabana well in advance. This worked out nice for our family because I had a broken leg and it provided the comfort I needed, and Paul our server was incredible. So we decided to try and reserve a cabana the following day, our last, even though we were told everything was booked. April, a member of staff, checked to see if there were any cancellations perhaps, and sure enough there was. April quoted my mother $600 for the cabana, and we agreed. She spoke with someone and came down to $400, we agreed. At that point, we were assured a cabana and everything was peachy. When our party started to trickle down to the water area that morning to scout out our cabana, we were told we didn’t have one. No one on the Aquatics staff would take responsibility for this or help us, so I went to the front desk to see if this might be easily resolved. Turns out, Vaneese (sp?) was off that day but was responsible the day before for making sure we got our cabana and were on the list. She just didn’t do it. In speaking with Kedric who was managing that day, he gave his sincerest apologies and assured me he would do whatever was necessary to correct this in the future. No solution, no alternative, no lagniappe. Nada. Now, if we were staying at the Holiday Inn in Shreveport for $100 a night I wouldn’t have flinched at this lack of customer service and common decency, but for $6000 for 3 rooms for 2 nights, throw me a bone here. Well, it took my mother (who paid for the entire vacation) to spend more of our last day there at the front desk and let me just say, gave them a change of heart. They offered to cover our buffet for the evening which we accepted because otherwise, we would have spent another $200 on dinner because the buffet (meh) is $35 a person. We had eaten there the night before, and I hadn’t planned on ever returning. But hey, free is free. This took three hours to get to this point, unacceptable. If you have ever been to a Great Wolf Lodge you know how hot they keep the indoor waterpark. Its nasty, humid hot. That part didn’t bother me. What did bother me, physically, is the intense toxic fumes a person is constantly breathing in while in that room. It’s CRAZY how powerful and toxic it is, and there is absolutely no air flow or ventilation. Everyone in our party went to bed each night with a headache and burning eyes. In fact, my daughter contracted an eye infection while there so whatever they are doing with those chemicals isn’t working. I worked in HR for many years, and it was very obvious to me the HR at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX doesn’t exist. Hiring kids is fine. Train them. Train them on how to do their specific jobs WELL, and train them how to deliver IMPECCABLE customer service. Young minds are the easiest to train. But we didn’t experience exceptional customer service. We experienced MEDIOCRE customer service AT BEST. We paid for EXCEPTIONAL service. If you only intend on delivering mediocre service, charge Holiday Inn rates 🤷‍♀️ As a matter of fact, I evacuated to the Holiday Inn in Shreveport for Hurricane Ida and I received FAR SUPERIOR customer service. BUYERS BEWARE, you are going to blow WADS of money for absolutely no reason than being stuck in this chlorine torture chamber. My family’s next vacation will be a lot more peaceful and accommodating because we quite frankly could have fun anywhere. Never here again!!

Great Christmas Trip

Family Christmas Trip was a great experience. Paul our server in the water park was excellent. The grandkids had a great time. The rooms were very clean. Everyone was very helpful with our Christmas trip and we plan on coming back next year or this summer.

A Beautiful, Relaxing Vacation

We visited Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine just prior to the holiday break. The decorations were beautiful and plentiful. We loved the snow in the lobby. We did collect the Christmas craft project, but decided to do it at home. The rooms were very clean and everything functioned as it should. The mattresses looked brand new and were very comfortable. The decor was themed like a lodge and did not seem run down or out of date. Every employee that we had interacted with was positive. They went out of their way to be kind and helpful! The water park was nice and warm. I dont understand the reviews that it was too cold. It is not a sauna, but speaking as a person that has an outdoor pool, the water was as warm as our pool is in July. They advertise that the water is heated to 84 degrees and I found that to be accurate. The water park was fun, clean, and not overcrowded. The food was very good! We ate at the water park, ordered pizza in our room, and did the buffet at the restaurant. It was all amazing! I have a picky eater. He loved everything! The magiquest game was so cool. The shop employees were helpful and we really enjoyed the hours we spent playing. We will definitely be back!
