More about the hotel
Excellent hotel, very nice and friendly owners
We are still at the hotel for one more night and so far we spent excellent time here. We are living and Rome and were looking for a place for 2 nights during our move to a new house. I was looking for something not very expensive and close to the old house. I was a bit concerned about 3 stars, as usually I try to book at least 4, but what a surprise ! The owners are very nice, it feels like family. They do their best in these difficult times to accommodate the guests as best as they can. With my husband we needed to rest so we booked two single rooms. Another surprise ! Single rooms have a queen bed, which is much more comfortable than a standard single one. Due to COVID, we were the only customers at this hotel, I was concerned about service or heating. Even more surprising, everything was sparkling clean, the room was heated before we came so we did not experience any cold. Thanks to the fact that we were guests, we could take advantage of the restaurant service in the evening. The place is currently working on delivery only but the owners were so happy to see some people, they exceeded all expectations. The food was fresh, of an outstanding quality and taste. In addition, the place is very well decorated. For breakfast, the owners brought us some croissants from bakery, because during COVID they do not prepare sophisticated breakfasts, which is totally understandable. Now what I had seen on the breakfast table was better than in many other places from before COVID, so great job ! I will definitely come back and recommend this family-run place to any friends visiting Rome. Thanks to all the team for the great rest much needed !
What a find!
We stayed here for 1 night as it is super convenient for Rome Ciampino Airport and exploring Rome and the Castelli Romani area. This is a really lovely family run hotel and they couldn't be friendlier or more welcoming. Great English spoken and nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful, large, shady garden with a huge space for social distancing. Slightly faded grandeur but this only lends to the atmosphere. Apparently Grotteferrata is where the Pope has his summer residence. Up in the hills so away from the stifling heat of Rome. We had a delicious dinner sitting in the garden. Great choice of freshly prepared dishes and lots for vegetarians too. White table cloths, lights in the trees and lovely chilled wine but otherwise casual and very relaxed. You must try the homemade tiramisu. Highly recommended!
Friendly, attentive and professional
The property is lovely, but what really makes this hotel stand out is the service. We mostly dealt with GIanna who is a consummate professional. She is attentive, and quick to the task to make sure your needs are met. Another gentleman we dealt with whose name I did not get was also very amiable and charming. The room was spacious. It needs some updating to bring it into a slicker 21st century decor but it is still very comfortable. The bathroom is large and well appointed. The restaurant on the property serves fresh made to order food and is lined with very interesting and colorful artwork. Knowing we were leaving prior to breakfast time, GIanna made arrangements for us to have coffee available and even took the trouble to come in early herself to bring us fresh baked goods and say good-bye. We really loved this place and would not hesitate to book it again were we ever back in Grottaferratta.
Charming hotel with character
Our stay (3 days) at Verdeborgo end-September was most enjoyable. The hotel is located on top of terraced gardens, with a lounge and a covered dining area, and is also a convenient spot from which to explore Alban Hills and Castelli Romani, while Ostia, Tivoli, and Palestrina are within 30 mins or so drive. From the moment we arrived we felt enveloped in the serenity of the garden greenery, with its palms, cypresses and pomegranate trees. It was impossible to resist ordering a glass of wine or coffee to be enjoyed in the lounge in the afternoon. Our room was spacious and had a vew over the garden. All the ladies working in the reception spoke English and genuinely wanted to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable - no request or question was ever a trouble. I appreciated them being proud of Castelli Romani area, and their discreet advise on the best places to visit and best seasonal/local food to try was very appreciated. The hotel also runs a restaurant, called Cavallino. We ended up having dinner there twice. The local Roman-style dishes were well-prepared, with fresh and seasonal (porcini and chantarelles, puntarelle, etc.) ingredients, so we simply did not see the need to go other places (which is not to say that the area in and around Grottaferrata lacks attractive dining options).
Very nice hotel and very friendly people
This hotel is located near Rome and the airport, and is a very nice hotel with very friendly people with great hospitality. Rooms and cleaning very nice too, and the food in the restaurant is the best
