Clean, full of history, great location

We picked this hotel because of the history involved and the central location. This hotel has been tastefully renovated to keep the historic charm. We took a junior suite which was adequate for the two of us. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. The bathroom is a little small, but adequate and I was surprised to find a hairdryer there. We stayed a week and enjoyed the entertainment in the evenings and someone playing the piano most mornings. The attached restaurant is good and economical. We really enjoyed our trip and were able to take advantage of the taxi system to avoid driving. Thank you to the friendly staff too

Iconic old hotel in the heart of Guadalajara

We stayed in one of the quintuplet suites pictured. The rooms comfortably slept 4. The view from the top floor where the terrazza is located is spectacular! Live entertainment in the lobby on several nights. The lobby bar is great and the attached restaurant offers good food and a free breakfast buffet for guests of the hotel. You will enjoy exploring the nooks and crannies of this hotel with its historic photos and decor. You really get your moneys worth!

First Hotel in Mexico!

This 17th Century famous hotel was built in 1610! Hotel Frances was the first hotel built in Mexico and is centrally located in Centro Historico Guadalajara. It's a 2 level Hotel with wood floors and a bar in the lobby. The elelevator is ancient! Comfortable seating and tables are situated near the area where live music entertains you in the evening. The rooms have TV and free internet. No blow dryers in bathroom. Complimentary parking is a plus. Family friendly. 3 Star Hotel and reasonably priced.

Clean. Historic. OLD. Charming.

Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt; and a shot of tequila! The place is Old. It’s made of concrete. WiFi doesn’t get along with concrete. I know we want to share our vacation with others, yet enjoy your vacation, not posting! I’m only speaking for room 223: noises, yet open room windows and building rooftop & cement structure, deal with it. Squeaky bed: couples- give it a good reason for the squeaking ! Not a lot of storage and 2 outlets for charging phones.

Excellent location and history but...

Really fabulous location for seeing El Centro historic area - we loved it! Also, the hotel itself is 400 years old and a true classic from another era. But, it has its own set of problems as follows. If you need an elevator, this could be a problem. The one they do have is not only extremely slow, but frequently fails to function - depending on who used it last. We had to climb the stairs to the top floor many times during our stay. The safes in the rooms do not function, so hang on to your valuables. Also, you only get one room key (and it has your room number and the name of the hotel on it). Also, the room key failed to work on four separate occasions necessitating a long trip (sometimes climb) to and from the front desk. If you like live music, the hotel offers up an evening bandstand. On the downside, it can be very, very loud especially on Friday nights. Sleep is not an option until well after 11 p.m. We complained of a chirping smoke alarm on two occasions, but it was never fixed even a week later. Flat screen television was nice and Direct TV provided a couple of English channels, but oftentimes a message appeared saying these were not available. Chance to brush up on your Spanish though. Front desk service was not good. Not quick to offer help or sympathy or even a short apology for failures - perhaps language barriers were an issue here? The one notable exception was Alfonso who did speak pretty good English and was indeed quick to offer assistance. And finally, the hotel has not been refurbished for a long time and shows it. The rooms are functional but somewhat threadbare and two-star quality. In spite of the problems mentioned, my wife did enjoy our eight day stay there. The price was reasonable and the location simply terrific. Being on foot was not a problem as everything we wanted to see was so close. And the history is charming. So, if you can get past the inconveniences, attitude, and lack of creature comforts, it is a great place to stay - that is why we ranked it a four star. My wife and I plan to stay again.
