More about the hotel
Needs work on Covid procedures
Nice enough hotel with clean rooms and comfortable beds. (Interesting that I called three different hotels in Gunnison to ask what special Covid cleaning procedures were in place and at none of them did the person answering the phone have a clue what they were doing different.) The Comfort Inn could only say “we have new cleaning supplies from Corporate.” At first impressed, with sneeze guards in place at reception, employees wearing masks, sanitizer on the counter and prominent signage of mandatory masks to be worn by guests. Well...not so mandatory. At checkout, groups of men were congregating in the lobby without masks and not a word was said by management. Ditto in the breakfast area. In addition, our room had pen, note pad, and cloth bedspread protectors. Nonessential items such as these have routinely been removed at every hotel I’ve stayed at since the pandemic started for sanitation reasons. Read up on industry standards in this area, please, and make corrections.
Nothing to recommend it
Not once during our three-day stay were we greeted on arriving. The young woman who checked us in was friendly, but she was the only staff member that was. As we were checking in, a terrible mechanical shrieking noise started. We were told it was "just the washer". We did hear that noise for quite some time that day, as well as at other times, though thankfully not at night. On the positive side: The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean and the grab and go breakfast was adequate. It was quiet during the night. The couch, however, was somewhat broken down and not comfortable at all. On our second full day there, our room was not cleaned, though we had been gone for about six hours. When we returned after dinner, the room still had not been cleaned. When I complained at the front desk, I was essentially told that it was my fault because we'd put the "do not disturb" sign on the door when we were in the room from about 3:00-5:00pm. There are other places to stay in Gunnison in the same price range and we will definitely opt for one of them next time. I chose the Comfort Inn because a suite with a king-size bed was available. I won't make that mistake again. As another reviewer stated, the place "needs a little TLC." In addition, the staff could use some training in customer service.
Needs A Little TLC...
Stayed a night at the CI in Gunnison. A few blocks north of downtown/US-50 on the road to Crested Butte and right across the street from big box retail (Walmart/Kroger). Older hotel, about 20 years old, but well kept on the outside. Lobby looked good and modern. Then I got to the room (306). It was an odd shaped room as it wrapped behind the elevator and the stairwell on either side of my door. (But I NEVER heard a noise from either aceess point!) So then I went to order delivery for dinner.....I looked for a room phone (since the hotel address is usually noted on it for convenience).....hmmm a room with no phone?? Is this a Covid thing or a dying fad? I found the guest info book which has everything about the hotel....except for the hotel address!!! Finally used my cellphone to find the address (911 N. MAIN) and ordered my food. Let's turn on the TV and start winding down....hmmm....first no phone, now I can't find a remote for the TV!! Food came, then i went down to the front desk to ask why there was no phone or remote. The clerk apologized, there should have been both! Was given 2 remotes because she wasnt sure which one (or both) would work. Now I have TV! Next morning, went to take a shower. It wasn't icky bad, but a bit creepy -- the shower was a drab brown color with many patches of flaking/peeling paint and scuff marks on the walls. A bit of paint and a little bit of Mr. Clean eraser would fix that in a jif. That being said, the ro ok m was clean, quiet and comfy, but quality control is way lacking. Peeling signage in and around the elevator is an easy fix as well -- but also very noticeable. And a room without a direct phone to the front desk borders on a safety issue. I hope this was a fluke and not general ignorance.
Excellent stay
First Joe was awesome at checkin...excellent room and bed was so comfortable! Had problems with TV and Joe was immediately there, asked for a dinner recommendation, again spot on! Breakfast was great and ate in our room. Wonderful, clean and definitely stay again...property grounds need a Little TLC.
Nice room
Nicest hotel in gunnison. Nice, clean room. Breakfast was a joke as sign says get a sack breakfast which consisted of only a banana and a granola bar and pool still closed due to covid stuff but everything else was fantastic.
