One short one night stay. Didn't see the surroundings. Nice welcome at the reception. Quickly fixed. Nice room. Big shower. Saturday evening. Restaurant was full, had to "do with" the bar. Not a downgrade at all. Manageable clear menu. Gourmet dishes. For starter, a local craft beer and snacks. A generous bowl of mixed olives, and bread. For dinner I had the fish. Very nice. The fish skin had gained from the heating element (while I was finishing the olives). The brocoli not so much. The breakfast: The Nordic countries, and Germany, are masters in brunch style breakfast settings. I love to hang out with a newspaper on a Sunday morning.

The hotel was very pleasant and in the best location for the city centre and the restaurants. The rooms are a bit rustic, i.e. rather old-fashioned, but everything is available. The breakfast was varied and well prepared
High quality - as expected

We had high expectations and these were met. Nice hotel, easy location for a walk to town, easy parking (free from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning), really good breakfast buffet with lots of choice, no noise despite train station nearby, nice room with high ceilings and generally a modern fresh feeling.

A rather irresponsible hotel. We chose to spend new years there to celebrate privately and safely. We called ahead to make sure the room had a big bathtub so we could lounge in that at midnight. We were assured the Junior suites had quite big bathtubs. The tub was miniscule. 1 person could fit half a body in it, if you chose which bodypart you wanted in water. The suite was so junior that it was barely out of preschool, i.e. two single rooms converted to a suite, one bathroom left as it was with a shower, and the other gutted, with only a little bathtub in it. The restaurant was closed, so one could not order food. We had to find a restaurant in town where we could pick up a take away menu. We had to bring plates and cutlery from home. There was no minibar, so you had to go to the reception if you wanted a glass of wine or soda. We toasted new years in water. That was complimentary. What really took the cake though was the breakfast: after waiting in line for a while in the lobby I spotted people going back and forth with plates. I enquired in the reception and she confirmed my suspicion: the breakfast served was a buffet! For what they described as a quite full hotel! At the height of the Corona Pandemic! The receptionist assured me it was fully legal, and they had plenty of hand sanitizer stations in there. It may not be illegal to serve a buffet, but nor is it illegal to think responsibly, and offer the guests a safe way to have a breakfast without an unnecessarily high risk of infection. In most countries around us Buffets are not legal currently. A hotel chain should have picked up on that. It is no wonder the pandemic soars through Sweden, reaping so many victims. Needless to say, we left the hotel hungry, and immediately. I hope the Hotel will supply the staff at the local hospital with free, safe breakfasts to help them get through this. They are currently all being asked to put in extra time and extra efforts. They shouldn't have to, but these are extraordinary times that require extraordinary measures! I hope this hotel will start contributing to the solutions in stead of being part of the problem. I will not be going there again.
#1 recommendation for those who go to Halmstad

I went to Halmstad for the annual IB Expo concert. That was a short trip and I had to stay for only two nights somewhere in Halmstad. Yes, the Airbnb options I found (20 minutes walk from the center) were twice cheaper than my room in Halmstad, but: 1) here I stayed in the center of the town in two minutes walk from the train (and bus) station; 2) I had fantastic breakfast every morning (I really wasn't able to taste everything); 3) the room was SUPER clean and quiet; 4) the personal was very friendly and helpful in all aspect (especially with telling where to get cash from and where to spend it). I am really thankful to my local tour agency who brought me such a pleasant experience by offering me to stay at the Best Western Plus Grand Hotel - my next choice whenever I am back in Halmstad.
