Is the check-in procedure a part of a Monty Python sketch?

The hotel has a great view and it is located in center of the most colorful part of Hamburg. However, on a combined work and relaxation trip with only a few hours in Hamburg, we were surprised of the lack of ability to operate a hotel. We feel sorry for the staff. They seem very nice. It is a nice hotel, but it seems that it is not operated with sufficient experience in hotel management. They have all the basic facilities to create a great hotel experience, but they do not have the skills to handle the basics. We don’t think the management ever tried doing a check-in at the hotel as a guest? Check-in was more bureaucratic - and took longer – with more paperwork than if you were donating a kidney or checking-in for a tour of the most secret departments of NASA. Also, you have to fill in a huge amount of information on a tablet with a special pen. It is in itself problematic in these COVID-19 times that all guests have to touch the same pen and the same tablet. It was unhygienic and a serious health risk. But even without the health risk with the shared pen and tablet, it was a disaster that you as a guest have to spend large amounts of time at check-in. It felt like a hidden camera joke or a sketch from Monty Python. There are more examples. Like the WIFI. Instructions was a short novel with an incredibly bureaucratic description of how to log on. WIFI often did not work. Devices were logged off and the connection was slow. The key cards for the doors did not work either.
Interior design flaw

A wanna be modern luxury hotel in St. Pauli , but it is not except the location in St. Pauli with Repperbahn on one side and the Harbour on the other , a great location I stayed frequently , Weekly , for years in Hotels and the rooms here are the worst furnished ever experienced. I simpley just dont get it , Why ?? The large rooms has two seating areas but both benches with the back against the Wall , there is not a single chair or couch in the spacious room making the experience extremely uncomfartable The owner whom obvious put in a great deal of money to this property needs to have a Word or two with their Interior designer before Calling a new one to redo the rooms. Call me when you done and we might come back , until then much better choices in this great city
Perfect for a city-break

Main plus is the view – if you book yourself into a higher floor facing the harbour front. The Empire Riverside is a modern and stylish hotel with a very good F&B offer. Even if you are not staying here, I would highly recommend a visit to their spectacular roof-top bar. Further plus of the hotel is the central location between the harbour (Landungsbrücken) and the Reeperbahn. If you arrive by car the hotel has its own underground parking (against a surcharge). If you like to know more about the hotel and its surroundings have a look on traveltreasuresbymarion

We had a junior suite one the corner facing the Elbphilharmonie on the 12 floor. The room is modern und well maintained. Bed, sheets, etc. were very comfy. They were not able to provide a king size topper for our king size bed to get rid of the space between the matrasses. Windows are top to bottom which give you the impression that you almost sleep on the Elbe. The view is one of the most privileged in Hamburg. The sky lounge bar is large and stylish, however quite expensive, if you plan to go through three or four rounds of long drinks :-). Downstairs bar war closed :-( Breakfast was unavailable (we would not have made it in time, anyway...)
