Nice even under renovation

Reviewed 4 december, 2021

Perfectiy placed in central Hamburg. Excellent staff! The rooms are great. Unfortunately the lobby, bar and restaurant were under renovation and we missed them. They used to be excellent so I hope they will be open next time we visit Hamburg.

Fantastic newly Renovated room, with great bathroom and comfortable bed. Breakfast was not what u could expect from a 5 star hotel. Room service selection very poor, not even a burger could be served. Friendly staff.

Disappointing

Reviewed 11 november, 2021

The Hotel is under a bigger renovation. Obviously only a limited number of renovated rooms are available for booking although even here some faults are still existing. For example in our room the heating system did not work for days although we reported this fact daily. The only available elevators are apparently the service elevators, but not the usual guess elevators. A lobby is not existing except a smaller room for check in etc.

Location was good. Hotel situated near local train. Only nearest metro line was under renovation. Breakfast was average. Cleaning was not very good.A cleaner did not change all towels. Hotel is not 5 stars rate, better 4. Sauna was closed.

Wait to book until after full reopening in late 2022

Reviewed 2 november, 2021

This hotel should not have decided to reopen partially during its renovation. Wait to book until they are able to offer an experience worthy of the Steigenberger name. Although the staff are wonderful and do their best to overcome the constrained conditions of a partial reopening, and the renovated rooms are respectable though with some major flaws, this together cannot make up for the lack of a proper lobby, business center, restaurant, housekeeping service, or anything else expected in a premium hotel experience. A grim "lobby" with no meaningful space to congregate or sit (or even a WC), a "restaurant" (basically an uncomfortable conference room) with limited opening hours, and no other amenities of any sort in the hotel - this is not Steigenberger. The staff are all well-trained and courteous. The renovated rooms are mostly well-designed, with some typical European oversights (such as underpowered shower faucets that oddly become dangerously hot - burning to the touch - without emitting water of remotely warm enough temperature or sufficient pressure). But the lack of a premium experience is crippling. No real lobby (just an ugly reception area with three chairs and no WC), no place for people to congregate outside of their rooms (just a bland, uncomfortable "restaurant" - essentially a conference room - with limited opening hours), no business center, no fitness center, and of course all of the scaffolding, noise, and disruption that comes with a large hotel undergoing complete renovation. Just wait to book until after the renovation is complete and the full hotel is able to offer its full experience (apparently forecast for autumn 2022).
