Room was clean and spacious, and the front desk staff couldn’t have been more gracious or welcoming. The breakfast wasn’t great, but kudos for having soy milk available. Special shout-out to John S. who helped us get the conference room ready for a family event and checked with us often to see how he could help.
Really bad sleep quality

I have a lot to complain about when it comes to this stay, so I'll get the good comments out first and then onto my complaints. The hotel is conveniently located next to the Hampton Inn in Harmarville, near the Ice complex. There's lots of restaurants, a Giant Eagle, Target and other amenities within walking distance which is nice. They also have a great patio area out front with grills that can be used, adirondack chairs and tables. There's an indoor pool and fitness area as well, so lots of good amenities. I had 3 big beefs with this hotel, and the first one is sleep quality. It was just bad. I stayed here 3 nights, and every night I was here I got an absolutely terrible sleep. I don't know what to attest it to, other than the bed. I had the temperature of the room set where I wanted it, but it seemed like the air circulation in the room wasn't great because it was just a window unit rather than a central system. I tossed and turned in the bed all 3 nights, and in general just had a absolutely miserable experience trying to sleep. Secondly, I am so tired of hotel chains using COVID as an excuse to not serve a proper hot breakfast as advertised. The breakfast here is paltry to say the least, which cereal and pre-packaged bagels and yogurt as really your only options. Please stop advertising that you serve a hot breakfast if you are not going to, or give out certificates to local places who will serve it. It's just stupid anymore to come into these establishments and not get what you're expecting. My other big beef is more with Marriott, than this hotel in general, but the issue here is that I booked this hotel the day before I arrived, so I was able to see that nicer rooms were available at the time of my booking, and while I booked on points, their generic room, I was not offered an upgrade to my room, even after asking for it. As a Gold Elite member, I simply do not understand what the benefit of my status is, when the hotels don't offer me upgrades, when it says right in the terms that they are supposed to give me an upgrade when available, and they just don't do it. I originally was an SPG member, and I can confidently say that Marriott doesn't take care of their Elite members the way SPG did. Some other small complaints were that I found the shower to be a bit problematic. I didn't like the lack of the door on the shower, or the fact that they seemed to have put a governing device on the temperature of the shower. I had to force the temperature gauge past its stopping point to get the water hotter than luke warm which was an annoyance. The room felt a bit small for us and our kids, but the Harmarville area lacked options for anything that had larger accommodations for bigger families.
Lovely Little Stay across the river from Oakmont

On balance of features, Towneplace Suites are excellent value for money. The suites have full kitchens, you still get breakfact but it's "grab-n-go" due to COVID, the pool is great, the have a gym and a laundry room. Perhaps others have theoutside fire pits, but, that was a nice feature. The staff are super friendly. It just had everything I needed and the suites are nicely decorated. It didn't feel like a "cheap" stay, but, it was.
Pandemic Policy not followed

I was forced to use this hotel by a tournament organizer. When the tournament was canceled because of the pandemic, they still charged us for a night stay. The cancellation occurred after the 48-hour period but prior to 24 hours. Marriott changed their 48-hour policy to accommodate for the challenging time, but this hotel decided to not follow their guidance. Now I need to work with Marriott to fight the hotel to get my money back.
Nice stay at a business hotel

We stayed at the TownePlace Suites for 5 nights over Thanksgiving. The staff was quite nice, and the room was comfy for three of us. The breakfast was your typical breakfasts with a few variations each day. The fitness center was nothing fancy, but it worked to get the workouts in. Only a few issues cropped up. The first was that the pool was absolutely frigid. It said that it was heated, but I have a very difficult time believing that it was. The second is that the screen to the microwave is very bright (in fact, many things in the room were bright, but the microwave was especially bright). We couldn't figure out how to unplug the microwave, so we taped a plate from breakfast over the screen...and we could still see light from the microwave. It would be nice to have the option for a more sleep friendly environment.
