My new preferred hotel in Rochester
Reviewed 9 january, 2022
Rochester doesn't have a lot of good hotel options in the immediate vicinity, and the hotel I used to use has since went downhill and re-flagged as a bottom-tier budget brand. So, during my most recent visit to the region to visit family, I had to expand my search radius to find a place to stay for the night before I flew back home. That search led me to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Henrietta. It's located in a busy commercial area with plenty of restaurants, stores, and Marketplace Mall within easy reach. The hotel is typical Hampton Inn, which is exactly what I wanted for this brief overnight stay - clean, comfortable, and modern, with no unpleasant surprises. Pleasant surprises, however, are welcome - like being upgraded to a king suite due to my need for a tub/shower combination in the bathroom. I very much appreciated that, even if it was just myself for the night. My suite, 442, is typical of Hampton Inn & Suites and their suite units - sofa and upholstered chair on one side of the room, with the bed on the other. In the middle is a long desk/table which separates the two areas. There's a swivel-mount TV mounted above the desk which can be angled to face either the bed or the sofa. There's a wet bar with microwave and refrigerator as you enter the suite, with the bathroom and vanity area next to the bedroom. The suite was very clean and everything was in good working order. The upholstered chair and desk had some cosmetic wear, but nothing major. The TV was on the old side, but in the morning I noticed brand new TVs in boxes being delivered to the hotel, so that will soon be a moot point. One note: If you order food delivery, you'll have to come down to the lobby to pick it up - delivery drivers can't drop it off at your door. The hot breakfast buffet is up and running, and there's a nice-sized breakfast room. I still chose to take mine back to my room, for obvious COVID-related reasons. Hotel staff was very professional and friendly, and once again I have to thank them for the suite upgrade. And they have an airport shuttle, so proximity to the airport itself wasn't a concern. I don't visit the area more than once or twice a year, but the Hampton Inn & Suites in Henrietta is now my go-to Rochester hotel whenever I do visit. They offer clean, reliable lodging with a friendly and professional staff. With their airport shuttle service, it's also an excellent alternative to the less desirable hotels located at the airport.
Average at best.

Good location and complementary breakfast but rooms were small, outdated, and beds were completely uncomfortable. There was some communication issues with management in the beginning but thankfully cleared up in advance. Did not really interact with staff at all on stay.

Friendly Staff and Clean Rooms

I stayed here for one night on business and had a very pleasant stay. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are very clean. The morning breakfast is as basic as it can get, but an english muffin and cup of coffee was all I needed. The free tea and coffee in the lobby was also a nice treat. If coming back to Rochester, I will definitely stay here again.
Generally ok, but definitely misses the details

I am a Hilton diamond member so quite familiar with Hampton Inns around the country. My experience at this property was not typical of the brand. The hotel decided to charge for the room 8 hours before check-in. The card on the app was incorrect. A terse email threatening to cancel my reservation unless I called the propoerty was sent in the morning. Why this couldn't be corrected at check-in I don't understand. I checked in online and corrected the error without calling the property. A reply complaining about the email was not returned. The hotel parking lot had empty beer cans on the light posts and other debris. With people loitering in cars, it was a bit sketchy. The room was clean but the hallway carpeting looked dirty.
