A pleasant place for a good meal.

We had originally tried to book for Mothering Sunday but were too late - they were fully booked as they are very popular! So we settled for an evening meal on the following Tuesday. It was very quiet that evening, so it lacked a bit of atmosphere. However, the food was great and we enjoyed our meal.

Charming

Chose this place as a cheap and cheerful stay while visiting Northumberland for one day/night. Our room was spacious, quiet, clean and charming if a little rustic, but considering the age of the building it was in pretty good shape. The building itself has a wonderful history that we found most interesting and it just added to the charm. Unfortunately they were not serving evening meals, (chippy across the road and a coop just a short walk away) although we had a nice breakfast and nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff.

friendly welcome

We went to Northumberland to see the new year in, at Allendale's Tar Barl. so on the 30th December with no room at the inns in Allendale I looked for somewhere to stay close by. The Anchor in Haydon Bridge popped up right at the side of the river. I rang up for 2 single rooms, after checking the very helpful and friendly lass on the other end said yes we have a couple of rooms £55 each with breakfast. so we booked. we arrived at 2pm the next day and the same lass greeted us after telling her we were going to Tar barl she got some of the locals in the pub at the time to advise us when to go as it gets very busy to park. everyone was really nice. sorry I didn't get her name. she showed us to our rooms, although the decor is tired I heard that the Anchor has been through a few hands and this owner is in the process of doing it up. The rooms were spotless and warm. we arrived back at the hotel about 12.30am and there was a party atmosphere but we were ready for bed. I was out like a light in a comfy bed and didn't hear any revelers leaving. 10am we went for breakfast and it was a cracking full breakfast very filling (bacon was not cheap thin slices) (Xmas weekend we had stayed in a travelodge for the same price WITHOUT breakfast and the bed was hard so couldn't sleep.) We WOULD stay at The Anchor again Thank you for a welcoming stay

Not great…

We stayed for one night, our room wasn’t really worth the price. There were damp patches on the wall and the shower tray in the bathroom was full of mould. Whilst the linen and towels were obviously clean there were blankets on the bed that I don’t think are laundered regularly. The radiator also didn’t work in our room. The breakfast was good and all of the staff we encountered were friendly but it was difficult to know who were staff and who were customers - just a uniform polo top would be a start. We just felt that the whole place needs a good clean, some money spending on it and some support for the staff who seem to be trying their best.

Had a fab wee stay over as we needed to be in Haydon Bridge for the night. Room was fine, bed linen, towels, shower, loo roll ☺️ all fab. Quiet night, good sleep. Staff super friendly and had a top notch breakfast the next morning. All really good value especially for the area
