We loved our extended stay at the Surfjack. It had an awesome vibe, great amenities, but the staff was our favorite part! Everyone there was always above and beyond friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Tiki, Jordyn, Haley, and Shane for always greeting us with a smile, helping us with our bags, and even our dogs when we needed an extra hand. Huge thank you! We recommend The Surfjack to all our friends heading to Hawaii!
Trendy and homey

Loved our stay at The Surfjack! Loved the beachy, cozy aesthetic as opposed to a high-rise resort - just felt more like home than vacation. We booked the smallest room (the single room bungalow) but there was still plenty of room. What really made our stay was the staff - we really appreciated how warm and accommodating they were every time we entered the lobby. Can’t wait to book again next time we visit Waikiki!
Great service and a sweet little hotel!

We have stayed here twice for extended periods and each time we had a fantastic experience. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the maid service is excellent. The best part is the wonderful staff, who are the most helpful and kind people you will ever meet! Big shout out to Tiki, Shepard, Hailey, and the lovely morning shift girl with long braids whose name I sadly didn't catch. Such nice people!

Such a pet friendly hotel with great front desk staff. Especially Shepard & Tiki, they where always eager to help out! Jen Dodd also is a phenomenal resource as the military liaison and very easy to get ahold of for reservations.
Not a good fit for us

A lot of kids and a lot of dogs. We love both, but they came with issues that we frankly didn't want to deal with on our honeymoon: lots of barking and screaming and slammed doors. We suggest that the hotel divide the building into those with and without. For example, the hotel could reserve the upper floors for bookings with only 2 adults specified (and no pets). And fix those doors so they're not so easy to slam!
We thought music was completely overused in the open-layout lobby. I mean you're in freakin' Hawai'i. There were birds chirping every morning, well through the evening. BUT: they were nearly impossible to hear because the hotel insisted on blasting music even early in the morning. Nothing against the music (we listen to similar music at home), but it just was not necessary. I could understand playing music in an indoor lobby, but when your lobby is effectively outdoors, let the birds set the mood!
Similarly, though we loved and appreciated the local musicians who came to play, we thought that the music was too loud, and went on for too long. You know that feeling when you go to a bar to hang out with friends, but the music is too loud to talk? That's basically how loud the live music felt. The live music at the Surfjack ends at 9:30, which we found to be an astonishingly poor choice given that most guests arrive from at least Hawai'i time plus 3 hours.
The room itself was OK, but not quite as cute or relaxing as we had hoped. No huge complaints, but there were some unfortunate design choices, like the sink which seemed to spill water everywhere, soaking up the tissue box. Not enough space to put things in the bathroom, etc.
The Surfjack was far from the worst hotel we've stayed in, but it was also far from the best. It is not, at present, a good choice for a romantic getaway, but with better choices (see above) I think the hotel could better accommodate couples while still pleasing the dog owners and families that currently fill the place.
