Bed to Sleep
Reviewed 28 september, 2021
Key box code not received by mail, as mentioned in booking process. Also no response after asking for it by mail a few days in advance. Therefore phone call during checkin process which end pretty quick after getting the code. Clean room with bed and nothing else. No water cooker, toaster or something else. (As common in Island Hotel rooms) Public room shown on pictures not open to public. So yes there is a bed to sleep but nothing else. Regarding food there is only a gas station near by, no restaurants are available in this area and there is none at the „Hotel“.
No service,locked door

I arrived with my elderly parents and had not yet gotten room number. In the lobby is a phone to reach the proprietors. They said they had not been able to charge my card and that I had to provide new information on booking.com While I tried do that we stepped outside. We saw a member off the staff lock the door in the meantime and then I got a notification that our stay had been cancelled. They did not answer the phone after that or any messages or emails. Very lousy. In the end we had to book another stay half an hour away
Please go anywhere else - deserted hotel still being minimally serviced

This place is listed as a 3-star hotel. That is 100% untrue. There is no manned reception area, no access 24-hours, no cups/glasses at all, and no options to get anything if you needed it from the hotel itself. Check-in is from 3-9.30 PM at this moment. If you arrive any later, like the ONE other guest that arrived at approximately 11 PM, you will not be allowed to get your access code. They were turned away calling the number and left hopefully to find better accommodations. The room was CLEAN. That is the only positive I can really say. Bed linens were clean, towels were clean, and the room was neat. It was jarring to arrive and it appear to be deserted unlike the pictures online. It seems they were going to do renovations and reopened sometime in 2021, but those renovations don't appear to have happened yet they reopened anyway. The reception area is closed off completely as is the main building itself. Grass and weeds are growing up everywhere - does not appear maintained. It was surreal, and I would have tried to go elsewhere had I known of a place that was reasonable and the fact that it had already been paid. Check-in was a phone-call with a lady that had to put me on hold several times to fumble around to give me a key code. That took about 3 minutes. The "free phone at reception" to call was not there, so I had to pay international rates unexpectedly. I supposed you could always call before 9.30 PM to get the code to check-in even if you're not there. It's not like they will even know. There wasn't a fridge, cup, glass, coffee/tea, or anything to speak of in the room. Internet had a router going but no service, so there's no internet. You won't be able to get anything but tap water to drink. I found it very cloudy and didn't trust beyond brushing my teeth with it or taking a shower. There's an N1 gas station with a "restaurant" 5 minutes away on Hwy 1. Nothing else is close. I ended up eating at a very nice restaurant in Hvammstangi about 30-35 kms away. It was worth the drive just to get away from the place. Besides being clean, the only other positive was that no one else arrived to stay there. The place was completely empty except for our room. Being almost daylight 24-hours, I didn't feel any security issues. Curtains were not black-out, so it was daylight all night inside, too. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Perhaps their renovations are behind schedule and will reopen the main building with facilities and actual people. If not, they honestly should close down and not try to pawn this off as anything but a functional room with a bed/bathroom with limited access if you arrive late. I have to save confidently to avoid this place.
We couldn't get in the front door

Front door was bolted, alarm was on inside. We couldn't get into the building. We rang their number for 2 hours but couldn't get through. We had to stay elsewhere. We had booked this hotel months in advance. Don't stay here!!!

Concept is that you book online and pay. You then get a combination code that is used to unlock a key keeper to access the room. We arrived without a booking and were met by a Bulgarian lady who didn’t speak English so getting a couple of rooms was challenging as she was taking instructions from someone via the phone. Cost equivalent of £140 (must be in cash) per room to stay at a deserted hotel and no paperwork. No breakfast options and no facilities aside from a small room, with bathroom and a warm radiator. It was torrential rain and we had little choice to stay as COVID restrictions had closed alternatives. Would not recommend unless you are filming a movie ( the find where two strangers arrive at a deserted hotel, met by a strange lady, and you’re pleased/ surprised to wake up and look forward to leaving). Check out is at 11am but we where being chased to return keys to room much earlier. So, if you like surreal experiences and like to pay too much for a basic room, this is for you.
