Hosts were friendly and helpful, and our room was huge though it did have a little bit of a 'wet' smell from the bathroom. Breakfast had to be ordered in advance and a table pre-booked (not sure if this was due to Covid). The breakfast itself was very very good however in fact so clean and non-greasy I cold quite easily believe it had been done in an air fryer. Parking could be a bit of a nuisance, but we usually managed to find a spot. Ultimately we would stay again except that Hunmanby is a little quiet on an evening for us (and we are not ravers I can assure you), but can't really fault the B&B for that. In fact if you are looking for a quiet little place to stay for a few days you really can't go far wrong.

Brilliant B and B

Super hosts, super clean, super neat, super everything. We were really impressed and enjoyed an excellent two night stay. The twin bedded room is neat, smart and comfortable with a small but 100% adequate en suite. Plenty of room in a good shower. The tea, coffee, water etc were replenished daily - nice touch! The dining room is comfortable and immaculate with the tables nicely spread out. Chris and Julie deserve all the accolades bestowed upon them.

The Southgate bed and breakfast is a perfect home from home.

My husband and I booked The Southgate for a five night stay. From the minute we booked the owner Chris was very welcoming. When we arrived last Sunday 12th September 2021, Chris met us at the door with a wonderful North Yorkshire welcome. The Southgate has seven rooms, and we booked the only room which was on the ground floor which is more than suitable for the less mobile. If I needed to use my wheelchair then access to the building and to the downstairs room is very accessible. It has a large, good height double bed, with good access to either side. The mattress is amazing. I need one for our bed at home. There's also a single bed by the door if needed. There's a huge wet room with loo and lowered sink. Help bars are attached to the walls for added help. In the bedroom there's also a comfortable two seater sofa opposite a large tv/dvd and a PlayStation 2 with some games. No takeaways allowed in the room. I'm not surprised though as the room is immaculate and serviced every day. There's also a hub for recharging your USB and plugs etc. The dining area is to the left of the entrance just past the reception area where there's books and dvds to borrow duro g your stay. There's also an honesty fridge with soft drinks and alcohol in for those want g to partake in a drink. The dining area for breakfast is up one small step. All tables etc were immaculate too. At breakfast we were always welcomed by Chris & Julie. Breakfast was amazing. We challenged ourselves to have a cooked breakfast every day. We managed to complete the challenge. Two rashers of bacon which was trimmed, a beautiful tasting sausage, fried egg done to perfection, baked beans and tomatoes. My husband also had black pudding and mushrooms. This was in addition to as much toast as you want, fruit juices, perfect coffee and cereals, jams etc. You certainly didn't leave hungry. WiFi is free and has a fabulous download and upload speed. To be honest this is an immaculate home from home. So much so we have immediately rebooked for a full week next year. The Southgate is perfectly placed between Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. It's only ten minutes from the A64. Parking can be tricky at times though. There's parking just outside The Southgate but it's a disc zone for two hours only. No return within an hour from 8am till 6pm Mon to Sat. Around to the side and back there is a free car park but this can be quite full. Especially when the fish & chip shops etc open. There's a Chinese takeaway and a sit in cafe directly opposite the building. Also a fish & chips and a pizza place less than a minutes walk away. There's a post office, convenience store and a Co op on opposite side of road and a boots chemist a hundred yards away. All in all The Southgate is an amazing place to call home when you're away. My husband and I would like to thank Chris & Julie for a perfect stay cation and look forward to staying with them again.

Southgate B and B

Chris and Julie are very welcoming, the B and B is very clean and well maintained, the bedroom was very spacious and had everything you would expect. The breakfast was also lovely and nothing was too much trouble for Chris or Julie. Lovely view of the church and village from the room we stayed in, Close to Scarborough. We would definitely recommend people to stay here.

Excellent 2 Night Stay!

Excellent Stay at the southgate b & b as a family of 5. Great clean welcoming stay with a great breakfast. Nothing was a problem always there to help and give advice on places to visit. The rooms were clean and spacious with every little detail thought of, heater, fan, iron, hairdryer, multiple plug sockets usbs, plenty of hot drinks (topped up for 2nd night) bottled water and everything you needed for a shower. DVD library was a hit with the 7yr old for a late night movie! I dont usually write reviews but they def. Deserve it and would recommend as a place to stay in Hunmanby.. visiting Whitby,Scarborough and Filey.
