“UK Family” summed it up perfectly in their August 2022 review, “Good, unless you have problems”. Well sadly my problems started at checking with a surly employee. After much research on the property, I understood there were two distinct wings at the Podstine…the main building and the ANNEX building. I specifically selected and paid for the Superior Room (non-ANNEX) in my booking on American Airlines’ hotel site as I was willing to pay more to be in the main building. There were certainly cheaper options for the ANNEX building but I did not want that as it was my birthday with my new fiancé. As you will see in my hotel confirmation, it clearly states I booked the “Superior Room” at Podstine, not the “ANNEX”. Upon check-in, the agent says, “you are in the ANNEX”. When I showed her my confirmation, she said, “the computer says ANNEX!”. In any normal situation, any staff with hospitality experience would say, “Oh, I see there is a discrepancy between your confirmation and what is showing in our system, let us research it”, but that was not the case at all. The answer was, “YOU ARE IN ANNEX, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY SURCHARGE TO STAY IN THE SUPERIOR ROOM”. All I asked for was the room that I booked, nothing more, nothing less. After calling the manager, she agreed to let me stay in a Superior Room but said I had to had to pay a SURCHARGE, to stay in the exact room I booked. I said, I will speak to the manager in the morning, thinking that surely the manager would rectify the situation. Well that certainly was not the case, the manager was worse than the night clerk! She said, “prove that you booked that room!”, as if the confirmation wasn’t proof enough! She said, “we don’t work with that website, show me pictures!” Well, I don’t know what else to say but I booked the hotel on American Airlines’ website and no, I did not download and bring pictures with me. She threatened to call the police, which I see she also did to another guest in a recent review. It was absolute insanity! As I realized there was no rational discussion to be had with this hotel manager, I stepped away and tried to enjoy the rest of my vacation, which was certainly tarnished at this point. In the end, I paid 110 EUR surcharge per night to be in the exact room I booked online. In all, that totaled to approximately 350 EUR per night, which was robbery for product I received. That aside, here is my assessment of the property. The hotel is nice, it has certainly seen better days but is a unique boutique property (as long as you aren’t sent to the ANNEX, picture attached). I would not consider this a 4-star property as it lacks items such as robes, hair conditioner, luxe towels and other amenities. The bath towels were paper thin, and the bathrooms were what you would expect of a 2–3-star property, see picture attached. The breakfast was also lacking for a 4-star hotel as you will see in many other reviews. On the positive side, the bed and guest room (except bathroom) were comfortable and nicely appointed. The hotel is right on the water, which seems unique for Hvar city and the staff (other than the hotel manager and night clerk) were lovely, especially the beach bar and housekeeping staff. The food at the beach bar was also very good and again the staff there excellent. The property needs some investment and new management. After staying at Podstine, my next stop was at the Hotel Neptune in Dubrovnik, a Royal Hotel and Resort…. what a pleasant experience after Podstine. Every staff member I encountered was amazing and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The property was spotless and modern, an absolute delight and it was half the price of Podstine! I encourage the owners of Podstine take heed of these recent reviews and make management changes before the current hotel manager does anymore damage to the property, what could have been an excellent experience was marred by a hotel manager who clearly places all blame on the guest when the error was clearly between the property and the booking site.
Nefarious treatment by an employee

We made our reservation through Booking. The facilities are adequate but one of its employees who is at the reception, called Emilia (so she told us that it was called although she did not have visible identification) told us that she had seen how a third person who traveled with us and stayed in another lodging stayed to sleep and used the facilities, that she had seen it through the cameras and that the police were on their way, What to do than to be looking at the cameras of the hotels... anyway... better to have recognized the error before inventing such a story... I'm still waiting for the valuation from Booking... that's why I have decided to leave it here to emphasize the bad ways of said employee and the little elegance in lying, it also charged the fees for staying on the island to this third person Another place during our stay in Croatia), I hope it is not another lie on the part of this person, in the end it makes you doubt his credibility.

This property is located right on the water with a nice swimming area and a dock for water taxi's or potential pick up location for water related tours. The food at the property was excellent but a little expensive when comparing to the average. Zero complaints about the room or the beds. I would suggest that you get a ride when you need to handle luggage but access to Hvar's promenade is not difficult for a stroll into town and taking advantage of the many places to eat and get refreshments. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

Friendly staff, nice room albeit big cracks running along bedroom walls. Ate at the restaurant, no specific vegetarian menu but limited options available. No atmosphere in dining room. Lots of flies down by beach which were a pain as had to wear repellant. Away from the bustle of Hvar and a nice 20 mins stroll away. Definitely a 3-4 star hotel- needs work to become a 5.
A Hidden Gem

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Podstine and were blown away by its location when we arrived... just beautiful. We paid extra for a room with a sea view and it was worth it - 180 degree views of the sea, complete with stunning sunsets at night. The staff were friendly and helpful and assisted with booking water taxis and a mini cruise to Palmigana (well worth doing). The beach is perfectly laid out and we never had a problem getting sun beds. People on here have moaned about the walk into Hvar, but it is a stunning walk all along the coastline, it's so pretty we did it twice a day. I can't really fault our stay other than the breakfasts were average but who cares when you are eating it looking out over the Dalmatian sea and islands.
