Coming off the ferry we walked around the busy port up the lane about a kilometer and a half to a beautiful hotel. Lovely place. Very quiet. We were greeted warmly by the owner and showed to our room. Small but very clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in the outside courtyard was pleasant with a lot of variety to choose from. Highly recommended.

Arrived to scope for arriving friends' accommodation. Never got as far as enquiring about a booking, as the charmless woman prowling the lobby made us feel most unwelcome as we poked our noses into the rather lovely lounge. (Residents only, we were coldly informed, but no notice to indicate so). No invitation to enquire further so we left.
Greeks work the full spectrum of emotion, heavily weighted to warm. But when they do occasionally veer to the other end of the scale, they can be imperiously icy. Maybe it's the surprising contrast that stings.
So so ...

The biggest advantage of the hotel is its location in the miggle of the town just 100m up from the port, restaurants and shops. The rooms are equipped with the minimum of furniture, a bit like in a monastery The bathrooms are modern. The sounds of corridors easily convey into the rooms. The mattresses are very hard !
The 11:00 checkout is very early and the wish for a ater checut was denied.
The breakfast was good and the hotel staff does it best in Corona precautions.
A two-night stay to decompress after a tour

The Hydroussa is a lovely spot, in large part because Hydra is a wonderful getaway to an island where life is slow and quiet! We selected Hydra for a couple of nights to experience a Greek Island after we had been on a busy cruise/tour that ended in the big city of Athens. There's regular ferry service that wasn't difficult to navigate, and once we arrived we found the island to be charming and perfect for what we wanted. Hydroussa hotel was lovely, clean, and we really enjoyed breakfasts (included) out on the terrace just sitting and talking with other travellers.
Excellent hotel in the centre of Hydra

I needed to get away from Athens to do some thinking and writing, and so escaped to Hydra for a week. I chose the Hydroussa Hotel because I have stayed there before, and know it's location.
I was able to get a fantastic, albeit basic, room on a high floor with a view of the harbour and sea. The room was fully equipped but was unrenovated, and the hotel warned me in advance. Nevertheless, it was excellent: exactly what was needed.
The hotel is located literally 2 minutes from the harbour and about 5 minutes from Drousos Palia Elia restaurant. Several rooms and common areas have been renovated, and overall it's just a great experience.
Breakfast is good. There is an irritating lady who tries to prevent guests from managing the hot menu items: it would be better to simply change the hot dishes so this would not be needed. (She means well, but the effect is highly irritating).
All staff encountered are as friendly and helpful as they can be.
I don't think there are elevators, and the rooms on the top floor are about 2 flights of stairs up. They are worth it.
I had a great stay and will definitely stay again.
