Amazing View!!!!
We stopped here for a quick Pilsner and found it hard to leave. Drinks on the patio overlooking the breathtaking scenery evolved into dinner and then staying until sunset, all unplanned but avoidable once we saw the views. Food was among the best meals we had in Bavaria and the relaxed, "off the beaten path" ambiance made it feel much less touristy than many other places in the general area. Amid 7 days in Europe, this was our favorite spot. The staff speaks little English but are friendly, so be prepared for a few verbal stumbles while ordering. There is no English menu, but the challenges are more than compensated by the extraordinary views!
Trip to Inzell 23 June 2014
Looked after very well by Margit and her team of staff. Our second stay at the Schwarzberg which is in a beautiful setting and so convenient for the bus stop right outside the door with free travel with the Inzell card. Our room was at the side of the hotel with a delightful view of the mountains and fields. The shower room was quite dark but very clean and good sized shower cubicle. My only complaint about the room is the absence of a mirror of any kind apart from in the bathroom. It would be nice to have somewhere to do make up, dry hair and check appearance before leaving the room - there was a full length mirror outside the door but not the same! Food was delicious and very plentiful - Margit's catchphrase "I have more" was spoken before the first mouthful was consumed! Once the evening meal is over there is not much to do but we walked to a local pub/bar a short walk away where we were made very welcome.
Beautiful German Hotel
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room offered lots of space and a balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains. It was too cold to benefit from it when we were there, but I can imagine spending a lot of time sitting there if it were warmer just enjoying the view! Our bed had a bed frame around it, which is a problem if you are tall. The bed is 200cm long. The manager told us that if we had let them know ahead of time then we could have gotten a bed without a frame that sticks up at the foot end. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also roomy. Breakfast was great. Lots of choices, from hearty to sweet. This hotel is located just out of town, but it’s only a few km to other restaurants. There is a walking path that takes you right into town. About German pillows: When you enter a room there are these huge pillows arranged beautifully on the bed. When you go to lay on them they appear to be all air and your laying completely flat. Even after folding the pillow 6 times, it seems to still not be thicker than your finger. If at all possible, Iwould suggest taking along your own pillow.
An excellent base for a family holiday
We spent a wonderful week here to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. From our first arrival - when the proprietress greeted us with open arms and the warmest of welcomes - we felt completely at home. It was the first time we had stayed in a hotel with our small children, and they were treated royally. The food was excellent at all times, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The rooms were slightly shabby and oldfashioned, but perfectly comfortable, and the setting with views across the meadows was idyllic. There's a bus stop right outside so travellers like us without a car were well served. In fact the only downside was the weather which was appalling - but that's not the hotel's fault! Thoroughly recommended.
A Classic
Our stay in this gasthaus was delightful. Oriented towards the Alps to the south, we had a true three person room with a balcony and a million dollar view. The proprietor was friendly; while we speak German, it was quickly apparent she spoke multiple languages to include English. We ate dinner al fresco and really enjoyed our meal. My daughter ordered the pfifferlinge mushroom dish of the day (chantarelles), my wife had pork medallions with mushrooms and spaetzle in a rich gravy, and I had a pork steak. Each dish was both delicious and hearty. Desserts were beautifully prepared. As the sun set, we listened to the cow bells in the distance. In the morning, we enjoyed a good gasthaus breakfast. A short distance from the autobahn, this is an ideal stopover as you head east/west.
