A Great Find

We approached this place with a degree of trepidation having read some negative reviews earlier in the season and hence set our expectations low! We are not new to the Scillies having stayed at Hell Bay about 10 years previously and Star Castle for New Year a couple of years ago
The big surprises were how nice and friendly the staff, the ambiance of the Hotel and actually how nice the Island of St Martins was for a 5 day break (I think it probably has the best balance of all of them)
We were blessed with sunny weather whilst the rest of the UK was covered in grey! We love swimming and I think St Martins has the best swimming opportunities and taking a Kayak to the Eastern Isles to be amongst seals was a highlight
The hotel is nice/rustic. The rooms are comfortable but do get very warm. They would benefit from ceiling fans. The non servicing of rooms due to covid I think has probably run its course and they should revert to normal practice. You could however ask for stuff to be done like hoovering changing towels etc
The food was lovely eating there on 2 nights. There could have been a little more imagination with breakfast choices but supplies to the Island must be a real problem. The island shop had run out of all drinks accept ginger beer at one point. They made a nice packed lunch for us one day
It was lovely at the end of the day when all the day trippers had gone to have a sundowner in front of the hotel.
One of the best swims on the Island is right in front of the hotel at the lower quay .
One suggestion would be for the hotel to be more proactive in trying to organise trips to the other Islands. By luck one of the other guests had suggested a couple of trips but without this nothing would have happened.
Overall we loved our stay but there is potential to take itself to another level but its understated nature does seem a fit for the island
A gem in Scilly.

Karma St Martin’s is located on a most beautiful beach, with the most mesmerising view of the sunset each evening.
The beach has fine white sand that I didn’t imagine I would encounter anywhere other than in the Maldives.
Rooms : Tean Suite and Great Ganilly
We stayed for four nights, taking two rooms (Tean Suite and the Great Ganilly). Both rooms had beds larger than King beds, as we managed to sleep comfortably even when one of teenage daughters decided to sleep between us!
In the other room (Team Suite) the sofa bed had been made up along with a camper bed. Both of the temporary arrangements were sturdy unlike flimsy fold out beds encountered at other hotels.
Food: the Dinner menu accommodates meat eaters and vegetarians and ver the four nights we stayed, we sampled all the different dishes on the menu that remained the same throughout our stay.
We were limited to the pasta or grilled chicken, for our children, which is more due to our children’s preferences, as the restaurant do offer a couple of other options.
Drink: the Wine on tap offering of the hotel is novel and innovative, albeit a little limited to wines that I would expect to see available by the glass on any good restaurant/bar menu. I would have liked the ability to sample better quality wines that I wouldn’t normally push the boat out for.
Staff: The whole team at Karma are attentive and considerate, albeit a little stretched when it comes to breakfast and dinner services. We had a few glitches with orders gone wrong, which are more than likely due to a combination of ordering, and the process of how written orders taken by staff are processed for preparation by the kitchen
I’d advise taking the time to be clear when ordering, ordering drinks as early as possible in your meal and being willing to raise your hand to get the attention of staff, if you need them. Please don’t expect to gently catch their eye as they serve other tables, they are busy.
Fantastic family holiday at a stunning location

We had a wonderful time during our 7-day stay. The staff were fantastic, they were kind and welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure things were good. We had wonderful food - the seafood platter was a particular highlight (we had it twice) but all the food was excellent. Thank you so much to the hard-working team. The location can't be beaten, it's a beautiful island. We can't wait to go back.

Have just returned home after 10 days at Karma St Martin's with our Cocker Spaniel. I got asked quite a few times by tourists if Karma is doggie friendly, and the answer is a resounding yes! 🐾 Dogs are provided with a blanket and bowls in the room, and there are a number of towels in a basket in the reception area for doggies that have had fun on the beach! Dogs are also able to stay with you at breakfast and dinner in the doggie friendly area of the restaurant.
The three of us have come home feeling totally relaxed after being treated like royalty for the week. Special shout out to three three girls (waitresses) who worked their socks off - they were always happy and smiling and lovely to chat to.
We're looking forward to next year's visit already!

We have been staying on our boat on IOS for 5 weeks and decided to visit Karma Hotel for lunch as it’s such a pretty spot on St Martin’s. It started of badly when my husband ordered a Malbec from the bar for me, the chap said he’d check he had it, returned and affirmed that he did. When the drinks arrived at our outside table, no wine as the waiter said he didn’t have Malbec. A little strange. Re ordered and my drink never came. After 29 mins I asked the waiter again and he said ‘oops’. That was ok though. Then my husband went to order our lunch. We went for a Sunday roast, he ordered one beef, one lamb. The staff member looked at him and said ‘ is that on white bread or brown’ !! My husband looked at him bemused and repeated the order. Staff member then said ‘ two beef’ !! For the 3rd time he gave the order of one beef and one lamb. This duly came out after a long wait, both cold and the lamb and beef looked exactly the same. So much so that my husband went back in with my food, whilst his got even more cold!! The staff member then said to him ‘ it IS lamb, look….. it doesn’t have a Yorkshire pudding!!! ‘
Just dreadful and all around us orders were either being sent back because they were incorrect or because the food was stone cold. The couple on a table next to us had ordered a bottle of white wine and it arrived unopened in the wine bucket. As the waiter walked off, they shouted ‘ any chance you could open this for us!!!!!???’
I honestly was beginning to think someone was going to jump out of a hedge with a camera saying that we’d been recorded for some show!!!!
I HONESTLY think that members of the general public had been pulled off the sandy paths and asked to work at The Karma for the day!! We will of course, NEVER return!! Appalling service. Shame on you Karma St Martin’s!!
