Hotel Alvar Fañez

This hotel has changed very much, sadly. The beautiful entrance with the iron gate had been changed with an ugly glass door. So had the great beautiful door from the courtyard up to the staircase. The courtyard itself was totally changed. The beautiful tiles on the the wall was removed, the little fountain was gone and everything, even the beautiful iron chairs was painted white. In fact everything was white and some cheapish chandelier was hanging on the walls and from the ceiling. I was shocked and wanted to cry when I saw it. What they want to achieve or try to copy is impossible to understand. To me the beauty and the magic was gone. It’s a horrible mix of old and modern that totally clash. We have stayed in this hotel at least 5 times before and we have loved everything about it every time. Sadly it has now changed owners. The fantastic manager had left and so had all the others, except from Josefin, thank God for that. She makes the best coffee in Úbeda and take care of the costumers in a great way. We were so fond of Alvar Fanez but now we are quite disappointed. One very good thing is that the mattresses were new and very comfortable. Our room was also almost the same. Thank you for that.

A very beautiful hotel situated in the old town of Ubeda. Great rooms with fantastic furniture. The hotel is from the 16th century with an interesting history. The entrance is fantastic as you come into the beautiful courtyard. Very nice breakfast room that is also a restaurant. The service is immaculate and we enjoy ourselves very much here. Highly recomended.

Most charming hotell 88 euro incl breakfirst. The service excellent. You are in the midle of everything, so the location is perfect. A little tricky to find the hotel, your navigator may direct you into to small streets. Park in one of the public parkings and walk to the hotel. The room standard is a little bit low for a 4star hotel but the charm is 100 %

We spent a night in the junior suite, a very pleasant and spacious room, the bathroom was basic but adequate. The building is beautiful, the staff very friendly. A scrumptious breakfast was included in the roomprice. The hotel is situated in the historic centre of Úbeda, parking is a 5 minute walk away.

Surrounded by narrow lanes and streets this charming hotel is ideally situated near the historic centre of Ubeda. The management were very friendly and gave accurate directions to both a nearby car park and an ideal local restaurant. The room was comfortable and quiet even though it overlooked the small road outside. The outstanding memory of this hotel was the breakfast. The hosts obviously collect local delicacies, especially the wide variety of pastries, and are keen to talk guests through their history. The local olive jam was delicious and we bought a few jars to take home. This is a very reasonable and friendly hotel.
