Great Location But Improvements Needed

While the location was great. The room, bathroom, availability of service and activities and vegetarian food options was limited and dismal. The Ice Hotel rooms are lovely to see and the Sauna was a great experience. Several other activities are overpriced and not value for money.

First time here and I was a firm believer that you can come here and NOT stay the night in the cold room, so I booked it. I was in one of the 365 suites, the ones open all year long. You also get a warm repository where you can put your staff for the night.
The surroundings are spectacular, the hotel is by a lake, and you can stay up until late enjoying the midnight sun outside. A lot of people just hang out there as you can't really go to your room until you're ready to sleep.
Sleeping there is quite something. You have get into a sleeping bag and you have to wear a hat. I slept with the hood off the whole night because otherwise you can't really turn on your side, so my head was exposed to the cold air the whole time. The sleeping bag is very warm, but it can be hard to move around inside, especially if you need to turn.
I had quite a hard time falling asleep because of the cold and dry hair. I could not breath properly. when I woke up my glasses were steamy and my shoes a piece of ice. I recall turning and feeling the pieces of ice on the pillow, which was very odd to say the least. It was quite the experience.
Breakfast is served at a restaurant 900 meters from the hotel, so you need to walk. The nice lady at the reception lent me one of the bikes the evening before, to go have dinner.
I would say one night is fine, but two nights in a row in the cold room can just not be as nice. I am glad I actually did this rather than just visit, it was worth it.

Spent a few days here and it was fantastic. One night in a ice room sleeping on a bed of ice, two nights in a cabin. Went on a skidoo safari one afternoon which was great fun and a traditional dog sleigh another. We were very well looked after and had a great time. A totally different holiday and experience.
Note. I would suggest that this is not ideal for younger children (13=)
The Ice Hotel is a Magical Place
Reviewed 15 May, 2021
It is well known that there are several ice/snow hotels throughout the world. We explored the options before deciding to go to Sweden and found that the original Ice Hotel is by far the best, and our experience ended up being even better than we could have imagined it. The Ice Hotel is a magical place and definitely a must-see within your lifetime. In addition to the unique sleeping experience, there were many options for adventure on or near the grounds too. We went on the northern lights snowmobiling tour the night before our stay, the ice sculpting course the morning of, met the reindeer that afternoon, and spent time in the original Ice Bar that night. There are two options when staying here; the original Ice Hotel that is rebuilt each year and the 365 building which is open all year round. All the suites in both sections are designed by artists from all over the world and are each spectacular in their own right. We chose to stay in a 365 suite because it came equipped with a private warm room, bathroom, and sauna. The original hotel is less private and requires you to use shared facilities. Both are great, however, the additional cost for the 365 suite was definitely worth it for the added privacy and made our experience super comfortable and relaxing.
Our suite was called ‘Wishful Thinking’ and had a second-story ice sphere where you could sit down and enjoy champagne from your ice glasses. We did not get to choose the specific suite that we stayed in, but every suite has that same magical feel to it, so we were excited about any one of them. Regardless of what suite you end up staying in, make sure to walk around and check out all the suites in both hotels - they are open to the public for tours for a few hours each day.
During our visit, we learned several things about how to better prepare for our next trip (we will definitely be going back). We have been on many winter vacations throughout the years, so we thought we had everything we needed. The Arctic Circle is by far the coldest place we have been to yet so what we thought was top-of-the-line winter gear, was laughable by those that live in the area. But not to worry, the Ice Hotel provides you with snowsuits and boots if you need them. Walking around the grounds, hanging out in the Ice Bar and for some of the excursions, you will absolutely want to take advantage of this as they are extremely warm. They also provide you with a sleeping bag(s) to lay on top of the mattress on the ice bed in your suite. This is again top-of-the-line in terms of being comfortable and warm. When sleeping, all you need is long underwear pajamas, warm socks, and a stocking hat and you will be set for the night. (I also wore mittens; however, my husband did not find them to be necessary). We were so happy throughout the night that our one-night stay at the Ice Hotel was the best we slept on our entire trip!
Sleeping at the Ice Hotel truly is an amazing experience. Prepare for the cold, venture out and do as many of their excursions as you can, appreciate the artistry and you will have fantastic memories to cherish for the rest of your life!
cheeky yoga with my cheeky judith
Reviewed 13 May, 2021
Dear fellow travellers
Its me again, Donald and my wife judith. we are back and better than ever on our christmas trip to the ICEHOTEL! we were greeted by the lovely Magnus who had a cheeky smirk upon arrival. i must say the hotel was magnificant and the staff were very jolly. The first thing my wife and I did was an ice sculpting class where we met Olafur who was an old fella with a missing tooth and bald (like an egg) we had a delightful yoga session with Ravi (our wonderful instructor) which was empowering and they played some opera which my wife LOVED (a bit too much) but i got a migraine. we were doing the downward dog pose and lets just say Ravi got a bit too touchy feely with judith for my liking but i think my harsh glare scared his botox face away. in the evenings it was bloody freezing but dont worry we wrapped up warm with my northface jacket whislt judith had her wooly hat from M&S. although i was a bit dissapointed in my jacket as i was still freezing so that will be taken back asap and i will get my £200 back. overall apart from the cheeky yogo instructor we had a wonderful time and i recommend to all.
