Great beach, average resort.

Reviewed 24 january, 2023

The hotel is set on a beautiful beach and it is well laid out, however during our stay we found there is a lot of room for improvement. The room is adequate but could do with a refurbishment, very nice bathroom with outdoor shower, while the outdoor terrace is pretty unkept which is a shame. The beach is popular with day trippers, however we found the boat traffic to be not much of a problem (perhaps the volume of day trippers are not back to pre-Covid levels though) and we really enjoyed our time there. The infinity adult only pool is also very nice. The main problem for us was the lack of decent food and beverage. You are kind of stuck to hotel food, which is mediocre at best and vastly overpriced. Also many items on the menu and wine list seem to be not available. We stayed 3 nights so we managed, but for those staying longer it could be an issue. Also service is hit and miss, the transfer and check-in process was quite chaotic (we waited one hour before our bags got delivered to the room). Also extra activities like scuba diving, sunset cruise and ATV rental are pretty poor value for money. I understand this is a remote island and prices should be higher, but the quality we received overall was below expectations and we certainly did not get the luxury feeling.

Great value for money and great view!

We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. This was the cheapest place we were staying in and by comparison was great value for money. The Racha is the only hotel on the island of Racha so it's a little hideaway. Super peaceful, and beautiful location. There was 1 main other restaurant down on the beach (which was nice - just went the once) but the food ad cocktails here was SO AMAZING! The beach and view were the main selling points for us. It's crystal clear water and pure white sands. The beach is really quiet. To the left is more of a public beach where some day-trippers come to - nothing to worry about at all. We did the snorkelling trip twice - 2 hours for about £35 and loved it. 2 main downsides for us: 1 - CHECK IN. It felt like total chaos - when you arrive at the hotel you all get off the boat at the same time. There's no welcome, no explanation of what is going on. When we were shown to our room it was all very rushed, so on arrival we were a little worried! 2. Not enough sun beds down by the beach. They could easily put some more down there on the grass area. You can always get a sun bed by the pool. Some days beds were all reserved very early, other days you might be lucky and get one! If you check out their instagram we felt it was a little different to the vibe at the hotel. Their insta feels super glossy and a bit Ibiza in tone, but when you are there it is much more low key, relaxed and traditional! Thanks again Racha. We had a great time.

Fabulous hotel. Stunning beach with water sports. Rooms and plunge pools are wonderful. Lovely food, cocktails and service The Racha branding of everything g from bespoke toiletries to gifts in their shop typifies the quality of the hotel.

Wedding proposal gone bad

Had a ultimate dinning package booking on the 20 Jan 2023 at 6pm. Arrived on time to the venue, but venue was not ready, the whole experience was embarrassing and awkward. We waited for more than 15 mins to have our place done, we missed our sunset and beautiful scenes. Totally disappointing

Great resort in a beautiful location

Reviewed 18 january, 2023

We are a family of 5 and stayed in a 2-bedroom Grand Pool Suit at The Racha for 2 nights in January. The resort is amazing in a beautiful location. Quite secluded and away from the crowds which is nice. Staff were very friendly and supportive from the minute we arrived at the Lounge at Chalong and throughout our stay. The Grand Pool suite was amazing with a beautiful infinity pool which went down well with the kids (11-16 year olds). Beds were super comfortable and great bathroom facilities. The resorts offers a lot of activities, we did a 2 hr snorkeling trip and the guys at the activity center and our guide were great. Beach at the resort is beautiful, white powdered sand and the communal pools good too. I must also commend the breakfast with its variety of options, probably one of the better ones I’ve had in Thailand over the years. The resort were also very helpful in organizing transport tickets to the next stop on our holiday, Koh Phi Phi. There are some areas of improvements though. The Earth cafe was in general a bit underwhelming both in terms of service and quality. First night the service was slow the second night it was very slow, it took over 1 hour from we ordered until we received our meals and I could see others around us getting the food in half the time or less and the restaurant was only half full. Something must have happened with our order as it wasn’t a complex one. Once we got our food there wasn’t a real explanation or a proper apology. A portion of rice which we never received still appeared on the bill and again no real apology. I think there are significant room for improvement at the restaurant. The staff seemed tense not sure why. They could defiantly benefit from more hospitality training to be more attentive. Overall the food at the Earth Cafe was average in terms of flavors and seasoning I would have expected more from a 5 star resort. I had better more flavorful food from a street hawker stall. Another issue we experienced was the communicating with the resort via email pre arrival, very delayed and when they did respond they didn’t really seem to answer questions asked regarding booking and confirming transportation to Chalong and boat transfer. I emailed 4 times to get this organized, and ended up having to call the morning of our arrival to confirm and then being told that only boat transfer was organized and that I had to organize land transfer myself. When arriving at the Racha Lounge I was the told that the land transfer was organized for us which was strange as we never got a confirmation nor saw any transport at our location pick up. Overall a great resort but room for improvements. Would we stay here again, yes but I think 2 or possibly 3 nights would be the enough for an active family like us who like to do and experience different things and locations.
