Excellent glance at Japanese hotel and brilliant experience
Very supportive and friendly staff, including providing tips for the surroundings restaurants or places of interest. The room was nice and bit better that I personally expected Excellent location and easy to reach out and go from.
Loved staying here!
The Mitsui Garden Hotel was beautiful and had a garden in the middle of the hotel, visible from the hallways of every floor (pictured). The service was always helpful and made our stay in Kyoto memorable. It’s in a relatively quiet district but there are still several restaurants and bars nearby. It’s also within walking distance of Nishiki market and the river. My favorite part of staying here was the onsen. The men’s side has a beautiful view of a small garden. I loved going there first thing in the morning and savoring the calming music and the rain dripping off leaves. We were also traveling with our two-year old and it’s a fairly family-friendly hotel. They gave her a little gift pack with kids slippers and kids toiletries. The lobby bathroom also had the nicest changing table I have ever seen. The only downside to the hotel is that it’s about a 10-15 min walk to the nearest subway. That’s not very far but if you’re doing it 2-3 times per day carrying a 25 lb child, it becomes a challenge.
Japanese inn-experience with better beds
A compromise between the Japanese Onsen experience but instead of sleeping on the tatimi bed on the floor, you get a regular bed that makes life a bit more easy. The room was small and compact with a clever use of space providing all the basic facilities including TV, free wifi, in room coffee/tea making. The entry and the lobby of the hotel is very simply zenish nice feel. The big public bath area - men women separate - is very cosy and relaxing. The breakfast buffet is OK, but the dinner at the restaurant is just so so. However there are numerous fantastic restaurants all around in this very popular oldish area with nearby ultramodern shopping streets and all that. Over all, very good. And by the way, they have special way of indicating time in a 25 hour cycle - bath open from 15:00 to 25:00..??!!
Modern, well appointed hotel on side street near middle of town. Clean, fresh rooms, good linens, excellent breakfast, polite staff. Also has wading machines. Rooms small but well done and everything you need is there. Highly recommend this chain with 4-5 locations in Kyoto. Friends like the one near train station. This one near marketplace.
Doesn’t get much better!
We stayed here 2 nights with G Adventures while we toured Japan. Decent size rooms, great amenities, very good breakfast, and a must do Japanese spa. After a great day exploring I recommend taking the Japanese bath. It isn’t Co- Ed ( and they all aren’t) but the soaking tub is filled with mineral water and spotless clean. This is how all bathing should be, not the North American hot tub soak style. Read the instructions on how to properly perform the bathing ritual and enjoy, it’s a don’t miss thing. The hotel is modern and efficient, well appointed and located, and a perfect place to feel right at home. Laundry facilities on the 5 floor made our stop over convenient as we were ready for some fresh clothes. I can’t say anything bad about this hotel, it me and exceeded our expectations.
