Excellent location and staff
I traveled to Lecce at the beginning of October. I was there for work and needed central location, nice bedroom and good vibes! I booked this B & B for 4 days and expected a basic place considering the price. But, once there I discovered a lovely bedroom and a great location! The staff welcomed me as I was an old friend and explained me everything about the city attractions, events and the structure itself. It was a veeery veeerry cool experience, I absolutely recommend for all those people who are looking for the perfect place at low price!
Air BnB Apartment
Our apartment (no 4) although booked through Air BnB was managed by this B & B team. Great location in a little square with 4 cafes/restaurants and easy walking distance around the lovely old town of Lecce. We got a taxi from station to apt (15euros). Whilst here found out It’s about 20 mins walk through the old town, one of the Receptionists met us and checked us in. Ground floor apartment in an old building - living area, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom with king double bed. Efficient aircon unit in bedroom and tower fan you can move around. Large courtyard with table and canopy. Perfectly comfortable but old fashioned. Although clean could do with a freshen up - fridge not cold enough for food (only used for drinks) nor could we get washing machine to work and a deep clean wouldn’t go amiss (dust behind light shades/rads, aircon unit a bit musty). Main problem is bath - there is only a hand held shower - suggest needs ripping out and replacing with a large walk in shower. Rest of bathroom is ok. Reception lent us beach towels. Main plus is the great location. Lecce a lovely place - we stayed 4 nights and hired a car for 48 hours. 1 day to Otranto and beach, 1 day to Gallipoli and Nardo - 1/2 an hour to each.
Booking mix-up; owner not responsive to emails; only pure luck got me a room
Our secretary booked me into Chiesa Greca. Based on the pictures, it seems like a beautiful place for a good price. I sent a mail mentioning a late arrival (10pm). When the EasyJet flight turned out to be 2 hrs. late I texted him from the airport on arrival. No response to any of this. To my great surprise an assistant was at the desk at midnight when I arrived: it turned out that another guest had arrived 1/2 hour before me only to find someone sleeping in his room, and they were sorting out another room for him. Finally my turn: the assistant looked in amazement at my booking. After some head-scratching she called the owner, who showed up fifteen minutes later. He took a look at the reservation and said it could not possibly be a real reservation, because "it is from our old booking system". As far as he was concerned, I had no reservation. A serious discussion ensued. When I pointed out that our secretary had booked the room two months previous, it slowly dawned on him that the reservation was made before the transition and had not been carried over to the new system. He did not apologize for this, but he did find an unused apartment (not clear if it is part of the B&B or not), which I stayed in for two nights. And, hey, mistakes happen, so I won't criticize the software error. But the fact that the owner never responded to any of my communications (writing back, for example, "I'm sorry, I don't seem to have a reservation for you, can you give me more details?", or apologized for his error gives the poor rating. I've been in many great B&B's were the proprietor loves having guests, and bends over backwards to make sure they have a good stay without administrative hiccups. Not the case here: he seems content to tune out any "noise". I shudder to think how the night would been if they other guest had not had his problems: obviously as soon as the last ("registered") guest arrives the owner and his assistant lock the doors and go off to enjoy the evening. The room was nice and quiet, even if it was not the one I booked. It is in a beautiful part of town. It could be a wonderful stay if there are now booking mishaps.
Wonderful Location
I stayed in this charming B&B for 7 wonderful days. I have to explore the area for work and a friend suggested this location. Loved my room, the breakfast, the location could not have been better. Clean, spacious, lovely staff. Hospitality was superb. I will definitely go back! THANK YOU!!!
Idomeneo Apartment - Chiesa Greca B&B, Lecce Historic Old Town
The Idomeneo Suite has a stunning walk out balcony. Car parking was a dream because you get a resident's pass. Mara, our host, was always available even when we got locked out at midnight! It is not "bed & breakfast" as it is self catering but that is what we wanted. The apartment is excellent for 2 or 2+2 older children but more would be a squash. The one bedroom is on the mezzanine floor above the sitting room with two double beds which could be split in singles. There is a spiral staircase which you have to be careful on. In May we paid £95 per night. While we loved the location, the splendid balcony and the host, there was a shortage of attention to detail: . WiFi was bad. You had to sit on the lav to get reception. . Sun umbrella stand on balcony but no sun umbrella . We wanted to cook dinner in one night and the gas bottle was empty . There was a hole in the bed room wall to outside. At night the mosquitos could get in and in the morning the noise from the adjacent building works. We stuffed the hole with a litre bottle of coke! . some light bulbs not working If these items were sorted the property would have got an 'EXCELLENT' from me.
