More about the hotel
Like Ronseal! Does exactly what it says on the tin!
Am currently stopping here. If you are after basic, standard accommodation at an affordable price you can not fault it. The rooms are very clean, the location is good. The bathrooms are clean, newly refurbished and modern. Management are accomadating It does not pretend to be the Ritz. It is a bed and breakfast! The heating is fine! I have paid far more for much worse. The people who are complaining are ridiculous. How can you complain when you are only paying £30-50 in a city for a warm safe place to stay is beyond me. Not tried the breakfast yet but smells yummy . The lady that people keep complaining is perfectly amicable. And the people critizing there political views have no right it is a perfectly legitimate organisation,It is borderline racism. And unnecessary to post on a review All in all for what you pay it is above my expectations. Hence the reason for my high rating. Well done management
Short stay
Overall a clean B&B nice staff verry friendly and helpful not in centre of highfields so not as bad as it could be room price was good and can pay more for better room if desired breakfast is additional cost should be included in my opinion but still I would recommend the B&B and would stop here again
Wish I'd checked reviews first
Booked for the my friends 40th birthday weekend, and despite the great location I wish I'd checked reviews first and booked somewhere else. We were 'welcomed' a staff member who gave us a stern recital of the rules during which we were told repeatedly that we were not permitted to have any visitors during our stay, and then informed us of their smoking policy way more times than was necessary, despite the staff member not asking us if we smoked or not, which felt rather uncomfortable and judgemental. We were told we had to pay before we would be given a room, despite the app that I booked with confirming that we would pay at checkout. It wasn't an issue to pay upfront but as a check in it wasn't a very welcoming welcome. Our room was freezing cold, very basic, no tea or coffee facilities and had a sink that was falling off the wall. There were no bedside tables or anywhere to hang/put away clothes, but we did get a chair and a working tv, so that's something I guess. Have to say our room had the least amount of furniture I've seen in a hotel room, it really had a touch of 'halfway house chic' to it. The mould and damp on the walls were a nice decorative touch, as was the general lack of cleanliness, the weird sticky stains on the carpet really added to the ambiance of the place. The mattress was really stained and had no protector on it, I wouldn't have noticed if the bed had a sheet that covered the whole mattress, it was pretty grim. On the Sunday evening I went to reception to ask for a glass for some water and got given a polystyrene cup instead. Really surprised that polystyrene cups exist when everywhere seems to be waking up to being eco-friendly, but no real cups for guests I guess. The shared bathroom facilities were cleaner than the room/hallways, but the shower wasn't great, but did have hot water. The bathroom was as cold as our room, so the shower wasn't too appealing. The day before we checked out we were reminded repeatedly that check out was at 10am, and the whole stay I felt uncomfortable due to the attitude of the hotel staff. The place is in a great location, 15 minutes walk from the station and really easy to find. There are lots of places to get food within a couple of minutes walk, so if you don't mind feeling like you're in a 1950's boarding house run by people that don't want you there then go for it.
Cheap and well cheap..
Situated approximately 300 metres from Leicesters main train station it is convenient for travellers and handy for venue's in the city centre. I have stayed several times, and whilst it is basic, (not even tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms) it is cheap. The Manageress always seems to be abrupt in all my dealings with her, whereas the manager is always polite and helpful. I think it is used to house some less fortunate folk as it has that kind of vibe about the place. You can pay extra for breakfast, but there are plenty of takeaways, cafés and pub's within a two minute walk that I never bother. The Grafton is always warm and has free wifi throughout the building and a small tv in all rooms. If you just want somewhere to sleep, and you don't mind sharing a bathroom then for the price you really do any better.
