New Year break

Reviewed 23 january, 2023

Stayed from 30 December to 2 January. Ate in the hotel both nights. Food is delicious and very filling. Lovely big room. Staff very friendly and helpful with information on walks etc. Hotel was short staffed but had no impact on our stay. Would definitely go back and stay here again. Great location for getting out and about.

Very enjoyable stay

We came up for the New Year and we had a great time . The welcome was good amd the bar area was very cosy and the people there were chatty and sociable . The room was fine and deffinately warm enough . We ate in the resteraunt both nights and the meals were very nice , the service was good and attentive . We chatted to the staff and they explained that , like most of the hospitality sector , they were struggling to get enough staff which probably explains some of the negative reviews posted . All the staff were mucking in and doing what good teams always do , supporting each other to maintain a good level of service and we would like to thank them for making our stay terrific .

Tired and run down with a lack of welcome and heating.

We booked their largest room (1) for two nights between Christmas and New Year for a much needed break. It failed to deliver from the start. Lukewarm welcome from check in staff and the main bar area was cold and cheerless. The bedroom was marginally warmer and more so when we cranked the radiator up until the heating went off around 10 pm not to come back on again until the morning. The sash windows didn't fit together so there was a dreadful draught through both windows, not helped by the thin curtains. The bedroom carpets and the corridors all smelt of excessive air fresheners . The final straw was the bed, which in itself had a comfy mattress and clean sheets, but only one thin, very tired looking blanket and a very old looking bedspread. There were reading lights but the rest of the room was lit by one ceiling light meaning you were unable to read while sitting in the armchairs. The table lamp that was requested arrived but didn't work. On a vague plus side the breakfast was good and the lady serving in the morning was welcoming and chatty. It was a real shame as the setting and location was good and this hotel could be something very special if money was invested in bringing it up to be somewhat representative of what we paid.

Not a great experience

Reviewed 19 december, 2022

The ice and snow had not been cleared from the footpath outside the door, which would have been a 2 minute job, nor had it been cleared from the car park entrance, which made it downright dangerous. Not the friendliest of welcomes and the room was freezing because the boiler had packed up, which also meant no hot water for a shower. Decor was tired and dated but you get what you pay for in that respect. Breakfast was superb and served by a cheerful and polite lady, sadly the only redeeming feature. £10 was deducted from our bill, presumably as compensation for the boiler issue, but there was no mention of it at checkout, nor was there any "hope you enjoyed your stay" type smalltalk. We won't be staying there again.

Very enjoyable stay

We stayed here for 1 night to celebrate our son's 60th birthday, there were 8 of us in total. The evening menu had a good selection and all of us thought that the food was very good including the breakfast the next morning. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable with the usual amenities. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hopefully to return sometime in the future.
