Another great stay!

Just back from a 3 night stay, our first trip abroad for about 20 months, and we had such a warm welcome from the staff in the reception. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. So convenient for the station, modern rooms with very comfy beds, nespresso machine etc., nice restaurant downstairs. Then we love the casino which is part of the hotel. Great to spend time in there, having fun on the slots and having a drink in the bar and watching sport on the huge screen. It’s a short walk into town where there are lots of cafes etc but most of the time we relax in this great hotel, that is so reasonably priced for what you get, I can’t imagine why you would stay anywhere else in Lille. See you soon, Hotel Barriere.

Just about to check out after an amazing stay - everyone was very courteous and helpful and the food and spa was excellent, I will certainly stay again when I am next in Lille; definitely five star standard.

Great stay

The Barrière Hotel in Lille is conveniently located next to the Westfiel Euralille Mall. It is also within walking distance of Lille’s main train station and the city centre (the Opera, grand place, etc). The staff was most friendly. They parked our car, walked with us to our Suite and in many ways tried to make our stay even better. The hotel looks very modern and the breakfast was, in spite of COVID restrictions, enjoyable. Overall, a very satisfcatory experience.

Friendly helpful staff, easy to find

We had a family reunion earlier this month in Lille after 18 months of lockdown and other travel restrictions. The hotel could not have been more helpful with several changes to the booking and with local restaurant bookings. The bedrooms are comfortable, well appointed and on the 8th floor certainly very quiet. Sadly the only real downside is the bathrooms, a triumph of style over substance, they look great but are so badly designed, simply not user friendly. The hotel is surprisingly easy to find off the complex Lille road system and the valet parking a boon and well worth the money, 18 euros per night. Location wise it is much nearer to the centre of the old city, an abundance of restaurants etc., than first seems the case. Both the Eurostar and local train stations are also only a very short walk away. Breakfasts? probably a bit expensive for a fairly standard hotel buffet breakfast, however, a short walk away is the EuroLillile shopping mall where you will find an excellent branch of Paul, where you can get freshly squeezed orange juice a croissant and good coffee at a very competitive price. Would definitely use the hotel again.

No longer 5 star, but still worthwhile.

We stayed here before a few years ago, so on a last minute booking got an excellent price for a deluxe room, at less than a quarter of the standard rate, and less than half the normal price you see it for. We stayed for three nights. For convenience would recommend parking underneath the hotel if you are driving there - at €18 per day it isn't the cheapest option around but it is a big saving on the standard rate of almost €50. We did not have breakfast included, and I would say the breakfast is vastly overpriced being at least €20 per person per day and more if you want cooked items. The room rates with breakfast included did not make it worthwhile either. Go and get some croissants from the Carrefour in the nearby Euralille! Reception staff were friendly and helpful. We had a third floor room with park view (would recommend higher floor if you can get it). We remembered last time that the rooms had electric blinds inside the windows which were controllable. This time we couldn't find the control panel anywhere, despite it being in the room guide. We called reception and someone came up, only to tell us the blinds no longer worked in the rooms and the control panels had been removed, but the room guides not updated. That's really not 5 star hotel quality at all. So the view from the rooms are spoiled by half open blinds which you can't move. The room itself was otherwise great and is the saving grace - clean and tidy, lots of space to move around, ample space between the beds in this twin room, comfortable seating, lots of lights. The bathroom is large, and the bathtub huge, you could bathe a baby hippo in there. Clothes storage space is a little limited. Turndown service every night, rooms cleaned every day. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided, there is a very small fridge which is 80% full of overpriced mini bar items. The attached casino also makes the hotel feel much less than 5 star, being frequented as it is by almost nothing but 20-something males in jogging pants and baseball caps rather than the cocktail dress and tuxedo air it is trying to put across. Faded glamour is the essence of this hotel. But overall, if you can get a decent rate, the location and room size are more than worth it.
