A hotel with a soul!

In a Baixa that has been currently transformed in what must be the widest experiment of tourists corral, with corporations taking over all the beautiful buildings and transforming them into mostly empty hotels, Grande Pensao Alcobia is perhaps the last family owned hotel. It's a place that has a soul and it also has great rooms, wide, with a time honored look. The room I was in had all the comforts: big bathroom with a tub(!), giant tv, a/c, wifi. The room was spotless clean. It is located a few steps away from Praça Figueira, thus, you have the metro, the train station and the main bus and tram stops literally round the corner. The staff were always very nice and friendly, willing to help and smiling. This place is the only reason I would ever consider going back to lodge in this disheartened neighborhood of Lisbon!

Price is very good, cheap.
Close to Metro and to the port.
Lights are up when you walk to hall.
No prepayment needed, paid in cash.
Printed my docs for free.
Loved the elevator... Old and charming.
Definitely worth recommending.

I definitely enjoyed my stay at Grande Pensao Residencial in Lisbon. I was especially fond of the kind and helpful hotel staff and the overall condition of the hotel and the room. The only drawback was that the bed was very hard to sleep on, but that is of course a preference thing. Also, you have to climb a fair amount of stairs to get to the elevator (on the 1st floor). Aside from that, this is a wonderful place very central in Lisbon and very reasonably priced.
City break in Lisbon

This hotel is in the centre of Lisbon, all key sites in easy walking distance. The famous 28 tram starts its journey nearby and passes both the castle and cathedral in its meandering route through narrow streets. Our hotel room was very comfortable and clean with a view of the castle. The hotel has an old fashioned atmosphere with very helpful staff. A great location for a city centre break.
3 night City break

Whilst holidaying in the Algarve, we decided to have a 3 day break in Lisbon. We chose this hotel, based upon it's reasonable price and fantastic location.
This is an older hotel, having been built in 1900 and is located on a busy street, which is served by trams. The upside of this is that it is located 2 minutes from Rossio square, with it's metro, bus and transfer's and a multitude of Cafe's and stores. It's right down town, which is a huge plus as a tourist.
We booked a double room with a private bathroom. The room was located on the fourth floor, which had a full refurbishment, earlier 2019. The room is very clean and comfortable, with a super clean and comfortable King bed. The large bathroom is cleaned and linen changed daily. There is newly installed air con in the room.
The hotel serves an excellent continental breakfast daily, which in our case, cwas included in the room rate. The public areas are very clean and comfortable.
The only downside of this hotel is the steep stairway to the reception from the straight and a further flight to the elevator located on the 1st floor. This elevator is very small and you need several trips to store your luggage in your room. I would not say that this hotel is suited to the less mobile.
I enjoyed my stay and the staff were all pleasant and obliging and spoke good English. I would definitely recommend this hotel as excellent value for money.
