Excellent suite in small cozy hotel in the city centre of Lisbon

Reviewed 18 november, 2021

We stayed 5 nights in the Hotel Principe Real, in the suite on the top floor and just loved the room and the hotel. Suite nr 501 had a great view from the windows and balcony. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of various fresh items served individually to you. It was more like a brunch. Also the service from all the staff members was really excellent. Our appartment/suite was cleaned every day and all our wishes were kindly listened at and met. Location was really good one as well, next to the restaurants, parks, attractions, public transport lines and the city centre of Lisbon. Room had a magnificent view. We were really happy with this accommodation and would definitely like to go there back again soon.

Joker behind the front desk

We simply wanted to know if this place had a room available and at what price. The guy behind the front desk barely acknowledged us and just stared at the computer monitor like he was seeing one for the first time. After about three minutes he mumbled something and kept staring and occasionally tapping the keyboard. After three more minutes of waiting we left. Guess jerking us around was his fun for the day.

Well located, lovely staff who went above and beyond, nice rooms and wonderful breakfast. There was free parking and many nice restaurants and shops in the area. Walking distance to all the major sites.

Friendly Staff

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Principe Real for our first two days in Portugal, Joâo checked us in, and in the hour or so that we were in our room after check-in he found a map for us and gave us some recommendations for things to see and good places for us to ride our bikes. Everyone else that we interacted with were equally as attentive and friendly. We loved that the room had a separate sitting room. It felt spacious for us with all of our gear. It also was nice that I could go into the other room when I awoke at 2:00 am and not disturb my friend. I liked the long counter in the bathroom that gave us enough space to store all of our toiletries. The included breakfast was fantastic. The selection was huge and we were encouraged to order a lot. We loved the croissants! It is easy to get an Uber to take you to distant parts of the city. There are many restaurants nearby, if you are willing to walk up the steep, cobblestones hill. P.S. we traveled at the end of June 2020, but TripAdvisor did not give me that option. I don’t know why.

On arrival we were met with the new manager of the Hotel, Tania. We were sent to our room, a quad room, but had a double bed, single bed and a camp bed and this for them was acceptable. We were appalled!! We complained but nothing was done as all 18 rooms in the the hotel were booked. The room was freezing, the heat in the air conditioning unit was not working, we had to get 2 electric fan heaters to warm up the room. Awful start. The walls were cracked, the balcony was a death hazard, the camp bed was horrible and yet Tania was not willing to help us. She suggested we contact our tour provider yet she should of dealt with our issues. We complained many times yet she never made herself available except on the first day. The staff were helpful and apologetic that we were left in this position yet they could do nothing to help us. I was told that I would recieve an email from the manager stating our complaints to send to our tour provider, yet after I emailed her asking for a response she has ignored my email and nothing was ever received. Not good customers service! When we checked out we left our luggage till we were ready to depart for the aiport and they stored it in the DISABLED TOILET as they do not have a designated area. This is disgusting and should not be allowed. This hotel is advertised as a 4* yet but it is not worthy of no more than 2* The manager is a liar and this hotel needs to be closed and a full refurbish if they want to continue to entice and lie to people that the hotel is valid of 4* We were there as a cousin trip yet our experience at the hotel damaged a part of our break and the ignorance by the manager showed a lack of compassion for her paying customers. Maybe she would benefit from a management course to make her more aware and know how to deal with customers. If there was a zero star rating then I would happily give them that.
