Excellent location near Tagus River and dock with many restaurants. Walk to tourist attractions (MAAT, Quake Museum and monastery in Belem) on one side, and public transportation, local supermarket and inexpensive restaurants on the other. Stopped by a street vendor to enjoy a pina colada made fresh from a pineapple on the way back from Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque. Hotel is not as crowded as central Lisbon. Short taxi ride or walk 45-50 min walk to central Lisbon. Room has no frills and only minimal toiletries provided. But we were fine with it as we're spending most of our time out and about.

Very noisy

Reviewed 10 june, 2022

I arrived at this hotel for 3 night stay as part of a Just You holiday. The hotel is very close to the bridge and the train noise is unacceptable. I asked for a different room and was told that it was not possible and that all the rooms were noisy. I will be more careful when next time and on this experience I can’t recommend Just You.

Very good hotel with some minor niggles

Reviewed 20 may, 2022

Stayed for 2 nights on a work trip. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and professional. The breakfast is excellent and has a huge variety. Wi-Fi is excellent; it’s fast, free, and a doddle to get onto. The hotel was also very good value. I had a well stocked mini bar in my room. I didn’t realise until check out that the bar was complimentary. There are no irons in the room, and the hotel doesn’t provide them. However, they offer a very quick laundry service. I needed to iron a shirt. I dropped it off in reception, and it was excellently ironed and brought back to my room within 30 minutes, for a few euro. Downsides are that the rooms are a little dated, and my room was at the front of the hotel, facing the bridge and river. The bridge is very noisy (road and rail noise 24/7) which woke me up a few times. However some colleagues were staying in the middle of the hotel and heard nothing. I would certainly stay here again, but wouldn’t book a river facing room.

Avoid if possible

I've stayed in several Vila Gale hotels throughout the years (In Portugal and Brasil) and it has always been an enjoyable experience. Not always great, but enjoyable. Not this time, particularly because of the staff, which is unfortunate. The staff is, in general, not very nice, although the room service staff was nice and professional and the bar and restaurant staff were also kind and attentive. But the welcome reception was very cold and distant and I even had a bad experience when a friend of mine who lives nearby picked me up for a walk by the river with her dog and one person from the hotel was very unfriendly and unkind to her because of the dog being in the grass outside. When i said that i was staying in the hotel and didn't understand his attitude, he completely changed, but that was after he knew i was a client. I must confess that this brief unpleasant experience affected my overall experience. Nice spa, with professional and kind staff. Overpriced and the mini-bar (included in the booking for which i paid an extra that also included my car parking) was a disappointment. The reservation said that the mini-bar was included for the extra payment but it never said that the mini-bar was so poorly served.

Excellent for a congress.

Close to the congress center. My room was also close to the famous (noisy) bridge, so every morning around 06h I needed to close the window. Friendly personnel; good breakfast. Clean and good housekeeping. Good elevators.
