Maravilloso lugar

fabulous lunch in peaceful setting
Opinión escrita el 7 de octubre de 2021
A first visit recommended by a local chef friend - did not disappoint, we ate in the courtyard garden near the pool, relaxed, excellent food with possibility to order wine by the glass - including wine from our favourite vineyard Ampelidae. Would love to return in winter for Sunday lunch in front of the fire

AVOID! Requires a massive renovation
Opinión escrita el 7 de octubre de 2019
On arrival the slow, stuttering, electric gate to the car park should have forwarned us of the horrors to come. The Hôtel Restaurant Les Orangeries, is a period building in a pleasant setting but it is beyond faded grandeur, it is tired, dirty and certainly overpriced and should not hold a 3 star rating. AVOID! We had booked this hotel in advance and to say our hearts sank on being shown Room 17 is an understatement. Firstly the overwhelming musty odour. Next, the hard tired bed, the drapes that you know have never been laundered since first placed many years ago. Dusty lampshades, rickety furniture, including an old camp bed in the corner belonged on a bonfire. Although dimly lit, you can see mould in the ceiling corners - miserable. You could honestly feel the dust spores as you take a breath. Our request to be shown an alternative room was met with incredulity “a better room? There are others but no better.” Now seriously contemplating driving to Poitiers, we returned to the reception desk. We told another lady that we were unhappy with the mustiness of 17 “Yes, I know, I understand you would like a ‘fresh’ room, of course!” Room 1 faced onto the garden and was an improvement but still very poor. I moved a tired old brochure on the table to find a squashed mosquito stuck to the surface just proving that housekeeping is minimal. The list of what this hotel needs is endless. In summary it requires a massive renovation.

Love this place

Great place, lovely grounds and swimming pool.Really good restaurant for dinner. Our third stay here in ground floor suite, two bedrooms with shared bathroom and outdoor sitting are which suited a three generational family group. Friendly staff and excellent service

Underwhelming
Opinión escrita el 25 de agosto de 2019
We were rather disappointed in our stay here. At €175 room only, we’d hoped for something special. However, our room, no 3 facing the garden, felt tired and a little shabby (and not in a shabby-chic way) and was filled with odd bits of mis-matched and, in places, cheap-looking furniture. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, the bath chipped and the toiletries meagre. The wall-mounted hairdryer was positioned so low that I had to sit on the bathroom floor to reach my head and it cut out after 10 seconds if used on anything but the lowest setting. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the evening meal. The service was haphazard and there was no sense of any overall management. We had to return a demi-carafe of house wine which smelled and tasted vinegary. It was removed without apology and then we were abandoned to eat our starters without being able to summon anyone to order a replacement wine. The food was adequate but somewhat bland and we decided to cut our losses rather than proceed to dessert and coffee. On the plus side, the pool area and garden was lovely and made a pleasant place to spend the afternoon although the pool was very cold.
