Hostal Atocha

Pros: They accepted us even though we called them 30 mins after and our arrival was at 7am. The price was not expensive. The morning shift staff (or owner?) was kind and honest to us. Though it’s on the 6th floor, there’s actually a lift. So idk why people in other reviews were complaining about it. Maybe they didnt notice the lift (elevator). Cons: the evening staff gave us a single bedroom with a price for double-bed room (which was later on fixed by the morning shift staff/owner) bed bugs!!! I understand that the bed sheets are new (as per the staff) but i know what i saw. It’s just a shame that the 2 staff denied that there were bed bugs even after i showed them the one dead on the floor, a big one. I have seen another small one crawling on the wall. Shame that they denied as I would have called their attention in the middle of my sleep when it crawled to my face but i was too tired from my long flight to do that. Noise: as per other comments, i would testify the same. You can hear all the footsteps of neighbours.

You can hear everything through walls)

although the young lady at "check in desk" was very nice, the place is a no no. It is up 6 or 7 flights of stairs and then you are greeted with an old refrigerator in the "lobby", a bubbly head cat and an old toy baby doll as decor. Years of stuff was sort of hidden behind the "check in desk". The room was good size but bed had clean sheets but 3 very used and super thick gross blankets on it. ( Maybe previous guests left overs?) It was not that dirty just needed a new fresh clean comforter and rid of clutter all over hotel in general. The sweet check in girl was our best experience at this well located hostel.

Booked it in a hurry and trusted Expedia to list quality properties... was very disappointed. Hostal Atocha was a total disaster and the worst place I have ever stayed in, even by comparison to my backpacking student days. Rooms and bedding were incredibly filthy and dusty. Have been into two rooms as the lady put me in the wrong room at first - both are equally bad. Musky smelling together with bleach smell. Mismatched bedding with layered blankets and layered fitted bedsheets one over another. Partial dusty translucent curtains. Mismatched interiors scheme is totally bizarre with a garden rattan chair in either rooms , both covered with layers of dust in all its grove. Got a room with en suite, shower and bath tube were not clean properly and have residue in there... it's so gross I ended up not using it in the end. Sink and its tap covered in cleaning solution residue. Walls are paper thin. You could hear every single person talking or walking past. Doesn't help that owner and family live within property and children could be heard crying. Only reason I stayed there was it's proximity to train station as I need to catch early morning train to South of Spain. But if I had time to check all other reviews here, would never stay here.

Avoid this property at all costs. From the moment you walk in to the so called reception area you feel unsafe. It advertises Air cond. yes but they do not let you turn it on till it reaches a certain degree and only from 9 to 12 at night and then they turn the breakers off. Under our bed was literally a 1/2 inch of dust and dirt. Used condoms and boxes they came in. Mold in the shower. WiFi was advertised but only at reception and not in the rooms like it says. They only speak Spanish. The whole family lives there so there are kids running in the halls late at night with no supervision from the parents/owners. There is one cleaning lady and she only does spot wipes. I witnessed here using the same rag for cleaning the sink after she wiped the toilet down. The only good thing is location. But there are so many other places just as close and convenient. I would avoid this place at all costs.
