I'm writing this from my frigid room in early November. I must admit, I wasn't that upset when I checked in. I mean, it's a hostel, so you can't expect amazing service or a super-posh room. What I would expect in November is HEAT IN MY ROOM. The ac only blows cold air, the guy at the front desk seemed really unconcerned about it (though he did offer me a dusty old blanket that had been sitting in a bag), and he's refusing to move me to a room with heat. In all honesty, this isn't the worst spot in the world to stay for a few evenings, but in the winter you sorta NEED heat. I've already started looking for another room and will check out first thing in the morning. Just go somewhere else.

Casposo - AVOID

Absolutely disgusting and for what you are paying you have PLENTY of hostals in the same area. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Staff is neither friendly nor helpful.

Avoid at all cost!

Worst hostel I stayed at in all of Europe. Terrible condition of room and facilities, terrible staff. Place deserves one star, solely on the premises of location. Even if you're not looking for anything nice. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here. There are plenty of other hostels in the are worth the extra few Euros. Seriously, worst experience in all of Europe. My first night there, they had over booked my room. After coming home from a night out, I came to a man sleeping in my bed even though I had already settled in with all my things. There was no other bed available in the room so I had to wake him up and take him to the front desk at 4 am. I felt bad but I didn't know what to do! I didn't receive any sort of apology for the mistake, even after expressing my disappointment to other staff later in my stay. I moved to a nearby hostel, actually paid less, and had a much better experience. To make matters worse though, I realized a couple nights later that I had left a coat of mine hanging in the wardrobe of my old hostel room. I went back to ask if they would mind taking a look and without hesitation, the man at the front desk replied "oh somebody must have taken it by now". It's was a six bed dorm, it could've been assumed to belong to anyone. I pleaded with him for several minutes if he could just please have a look and he kept denying. I was fuming at that point. "Look, this place really messed up while I was here. The least you could do for me is check for my coat if you're not going to apologize". He refused to do so, so I took matters into my own hands, went to the room, saw a person I had roomed with earlier and asked him to look. My coat was still there so I was able to retrieve it but when I came back down, the front desk man was threatening to call the cops on me. Ughhhh! I was sooooo mad. I can't believe this awful place. DO NOT STAY HERE.

We stayed at the Hostal Tijcal on the night of April 17, 2017 and, as before, it was special. Great location, very reasonable prices, good room and helpful staff. For me, as I've said in earlier reviews, this is the place to stay.

Great Location and Staff but so Rundown
Reviewed 31 december, 2016
Based on the location, by Plaza Mayor, and the friendly staff this could be a great budget hotel. Regrettably it is so rundown and shabby that it turned into quite a disappointment. We stayed in a private twin room for 6 nights in early December. The problem is that clearly nothing had been done to maintain the room for many years - walls covered in historic scruff marks, white painted wood turned a dark cream colour due to age, thick black mould covering shower base edging, wardrobe door edging hanging off, 2 beds of different size and non matching covers etc. The list really could go on. A little bit of effort and only a little money would make a hugh difference, but one to avoid for now.
