Staying in the Park for a Night was Perfect!

Reviewed 9 december, 2021

The drive into the park had so many switchbacks and was very far from the closest town so we decided it was worth it to splurge for one night at the lodge. The room was small and quaint and the bathroom was very nice. We especially enjoyed the balcony overlooking the park. The Metate Room restaurant was within walking distance. Be sure to make reservations. The main building had a pool table and work out room and we found that the computer area had the best access to WIFI although it was inconsistent.

Nice park to view, Not recommend staying at the Lodge

Enjoyed the park and the views and checked into the Far View Lodge after 4:00. Our room was within walking distance to the Restaurant. Reservations are needed and we had an expensive but excellent meal and service. Our room was small but adequate with a balcony to walk out on. It was on the lower floor so view was looking over and through growing Juniper trees to see spectacular Mountain View. I would suggest upper level request. Our room looked like some one had laid on the bed and the pillows were not line up. The room smelled like urine. With further investigation the toilet had a crack in the bowl and through the tank. The establishment had to have known about it because a solid air freshener was setting under the tank of the toilet. We stayed September 30, 21 which was their last night of service for the year. There were travel buses and a full parking lot, so we knew changing rooms was not going to happen. The customer service at the registration was cold as mentioned in another recent review. We stayed but it was a sleepless night, left at 6:00 am for going a shower due to the toilet smell and who knows what type of matter on the floor. I would not recommend staying at this lodge.

Great views, uncomfortable sleep.

We had been camping in Mesa Verde NP (Morefield Campground) after also camping in Black Canyon and Great Sand Dunes. We decided to spend our final night in the lodge so that our camping gear could be fully packed and we could leave in the early a.m. for the long journey home to Maryland. Got to the reservation desk at the advertised check-in time (1pm) and were told that check-in wasn't until 4pm. Huh? No explanation nor any apology for the discrepancy/change. We put little effort into arguing because we could tell from the young check-in clerk's demeanor that: her responses were automatic with no eye contact, she had very little experience with customer service, and arguing would've been a waste of time and effort. So, off to spend more time at other MVNP sites... Returned just after 3pm, hoping for a change and lo! We got a room. However, the couple behind us didn't... something about the "type of room {they} reserved". They tried the arguing route which did not work at all. Yep, same clerk, same lack of customer service (at least offer an apology and some eye contact...). Got to our room. Small but that was expected. Two double-beds. Great view! Shower worked well. HVAC did not. No tv, as expected and not needed. Fridge worked well and wifi was ok. Porch lights shone directly into the room and could not be turned off or blocked so the room was lit up all night. With poor HVAC and no air circulation (we opened windows but there was no breeze and no ceiling fan) and a lit-up room, sleep was difficult. Wide awake at 3am, we got up and left.

Big sky, stars, and horses

Lovely, clean room with a view, ready early, unexpectedly elegant, delicious, and special dinner on site, kind and helpful staff in all parts of the lodge, a sky full of stars like you have never seen, and “trespass horses” at dawn. Perfection.

Don’t stay here if you can avoid it!

My husband I stayed at the Far View Lodge in early September. The rooms are NOTHING like the phots shown on their website, which advertises spacious, light colored deluxe rooms. When we went to our room, it was actually tiny, dark green, and the king bed took up almost the entire room. The bathroom was incredibly tiny a ps well. I went back to the front desk and showed a person there the pictures online and asked if our room was truly a deluxe room. She looked at the photo and said she’d never seen rooms like that before in the lodge. Unbelievable. The room was dirty—when I used a tissue to wipe something off the shower floor, it came up black. I really expected more from a National Park Lodge. And I have to add the front desk staff was incredibly rude and unfriendly. All in all, a bad experience. If you do stay there, don’t expect much—you won’t get it. And Aramark, please take those nice photos off the website. It’s deceptive advertising.
