I stayed for a night at Hotel Tivoli Maputo whilst on transit ,l must say everything was top notch from checking in to the room as well ,l must extend my greatest appreciation to the guy( apologies forgot his name) who was on front desk late night of the 8th and early morning of the 9th of October as he helped me phoning several times the shuttle company that was supposed to pick me up as they where late ,if it was not for him l would have missed my flight.Thumbs up Tivoli Maputo.

I booked an airport pick up prior to my arrival as I will be arriving late night. Being a solo female traveller and first time visiting the country, i didnt want to take airport taxi. Thr airport pick up was confirmed by someone named Sandra Nhassengo. I landed in Maputo but no one was there to pick me. Everything in the airport was closed, i couldnt buy a sim to call the hotel, so i had to ask random people to let me use their phones. It seems they didnt arrange for the pick up at all. I waited for 2 hours in the airport! The next day i needed a transport to go to Baia Mall and asked the reception to arrange a transport to drop me and pick me after 3hrs. They wanted to charge me 3500MT. So i said its too much, just call a taxi for me. The reception guy told me taxi will charge 2000MT for dropping and picking me. I didnt have a choice so I went. Only to find out later that i was charged double! I am a frequent traveller and in most of the hotels I have stayed with, the staff in the reception will guide you with the correct fares not to get ripped off. I guess its a different case in this hotel. The hotel is centrally located and ideal for business travellers like me. But i will never recommend this hotel because of their staff. The ladies in the reception will not even greet or smile at you. Very bad customer service.
My 1st experience in Maputo, Mozambique

At the heart of Maputo, Hotel Tivoli remains a very quiet and serene place to lodge while in Mozambique. Warm and welcoming staff, superb food, great facilities, great view of the city and a cute gym!
Really terrible food

This hotel is fine in terms of the rooms, the staff etc. But DO NOT ORDER food, especially room service. The food is truly terrible, room service food arrives cold and greasy and basically inedible. I have now been here for more than a week on a business trip and I can't bear to eat the food another moment. DO ORDER take away from nearby Indian restaurant Galaxy - they deliver to your room.
