Better of staying across the road
So we first got to Diverhotel Marbella and noticed in our room there was glass on the balcony so reported this which said would be cleaned but never was done properly. On arrival I paid extra for all inclusive which for the first couple days I had no complaints with. However I did not realise that on the friday it was the Spanish bank holiday and that our hotel was fully booked for the weekend meaning 500 new guests. When speaking to the hotel receptionist he explained that because it was the last weekend the hotel was open they got it cheap. We never used the all inclusive for last part of our holiday and ate out at restaurants. On the day of checkout we was told that we couldn't have a late checkout as it was the last day and that the hotel will be closing end of season at 1600 , so we opted to not pay the extra, which meant with arrangements to be picked up at 2035 by private transfer we were now stranded until such time. Definately made the wrong choice pay the extra and stay across the road I'm marbella playa we managed to venture inside there a couple of times and everything is soo much better.
Great family holiday
We spent a week here and i must say we had a really nice holiday. Yes the room was basic and lacking in storage but functional. All the staff were very friendly from management to house keepers. My husband celebrated his birthday while there and when staff saw the cards they decorated our room door and later sent a bottle fizz which we found was a lovely touch. All inclusive was great with branded drinks. Could not complain with the choice of food at all meal times. Pool area is in need of some tlc but everyone happy to use it. Thank you Diverhotel for a lovely holiday.
Cheap no wifi
Booked at last minute, good value but no WiFi Not a problem for me but my friend needed WiFi We were given silly excuses and finally after three days told to use WiFi in neighbouring hotel. Told us we had to speak to manager at 0800 in the morning, no one would admit to being the manager, On the final day they gave us a letter offering us free breakfast for that day and the previous day. I did go and have the breakfast, probably not worth the extra money, and glad I didn’t book it. flies were troublesome outside and lots of mosquitos about. There are three hotels on the site, the third one leads onto the beach and is much more upmarket, however bar and snack prices the same at both. Staff in the Diver Dino were on the whole miserable. If you do t have a car you need to get taxis or the bus, not recommended unless you are fit. When we booked it said free WiFi, spa and indoor heated pool , I notice the description has now changed. If I had to return to this hotel again it would only be to use it as a base if I had a car.
Avoid diverhotel, Marbella
We have recently returned from the diverhotel in Marbella. This hotel is situated in the middle of no where, you have a petroleum station, shop, chinese restaurant and beach 5 minute walk from hotel. There is one bar on beach otherwise you walk for miles. Too far to walk anywhere so you take bus or taxi. Bus to Marbella town centre took 1 hour. Taxi cost 25-30 euros one way. The diverhotel was great for including branded alcoholic drinks in the all inclusive but never kept a stick so when it was gone that was it till the next day! Crisps and ice creams included with all inclusive. Restaurant - food was slightly warm or cold, good variety but repeated every day. We had to check food as undercooked or raw meat at times. We became ill from eating here. Pool - maintenance required around pool area urgently we all had bruises and cuts from injuries. Children was cutting their feet in the indoor pool and this was dirty. The pool area floors was sprayed with water but not disinfectant so was dirty. Ladders to pool came off and we had injured children. No music or inflatables or balls allowed in pool. Lifeguard was busy talking to bar staff and moaning about music on low by pool than looking after children in pool. Flies - never ever have I seen so many flies, everywhere constantly especially by the pool. Lying on sunbed I counted and I had over 50 flies on my legs. Everyone bought fly spray and anything to help. It was disgusting. Animation team - did their best but was the worst entertainment team we have ever experienced. Rooms - like staying in a matchbox! Extremely small rooms for a family. One single wardrobe for 4 people and no where to store suitcases! Two double beds pushed together so all sleeping together. Maid did clean every day, dry swept floor, changed towels, made bed and emptied bins. I would never return to this hotel.
Not in the centre of Marbella
We had a holiday cancel at the last minute due to the Thomas Cook collapse. We managed to secure another holiday through TUI and were told by them that this hotel was in the centre of Marbella with all the shops and bars. It is in actual fact approx 5 miles away from the centre and you have to get a taxi or a bus to get there. This was disappointing as there isn’t much around this hotel. Although there was a nice Chinese restaurant and another local bar/restaurant that I recommend, Donde Danny. There is also a supermarket nearby too. When we arrived TUI had booked us a twin room with a balcony, however they hadn’t booked it and we would have had a room in the dinosaur building without a balcony. We had to pay €70 to upgrade (this is something we will complain to TUI about as it is their error). The room we did upgrade to was clean and twin room. We had our own pair of hotel slippers and there were tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a mini fridge. The view from the balcony was nice and we could see the sea within the short distance. We avoided the entertainment and sat on the balcony most evenings. We could hear the same music played at the disco. Great for the kids, but I can’t help but wonder if this drove adults mad! I had my personal reservations that this being a ‘family hotel’ that it wouldn’t be peaceful, however, with it being late September/early October it wasn’t school Holiday season so we thought there wouldn’t be too many children about...how wrong that assumption was! Although there were some adults with well behaved children, we witnessed children playing football on one of the flat roofs that were above the main reception and canteen! Sadly when I tried to call reception to let them know, the phone would be cut off. I have to call the eating area a canteen as that’s what it was. It was like a wild canteen full of displaced and misbehaved children. At one point, one kid nearly burnt himself as he jumped under the coffee machine to get a plastic cup near the juice machine. Breakfast was never a relaxing time as it was like something I have never experienced before. We walked away more stressed after breakfast than ever at a busy airport. On the last day we were so pleased to see the canteen was less chaotic and lots of tables available, this meant we could sit away from the crowds of families. However, one of the staff proceeded to tell us (as we were eating our breakfast) that the area we were sat was closed. There was no sign and I couldn’t believe how they thought it was acceptable to tell us off! All week the staff had been lovely but this was unacceptable. In regards to the breakfast there was a good selection. The WiFi wasn’t the best neither, so be warned if you don’t have much data on your phone. For a 3 star hotel it isn’t bad, but I personally prefer a minimum of 4 star and mainly adults.
