It is what it is, A budget hotel but dont expect to walk to town

Reviewed 13 february, 2017

Having stayed with B&B before I guessed what I would get. This is a fairly new hotel and is surrounded by a building site at my time of staying and which I guess will remain so for some considerable time yet. The room is standard B&B Basic but clean and enough for what I wanted a good shower, clean comfortable bed and a carpark. the carpark was well lit at night but the security gate was never closed. The free internet was good enough to watch movies with but I don't think many people were in during my stay. Also even though my room was next to the lift I never heard it. If your going to stay here don't plan on walking into town through quaint streets passing little bistros. The area around the Hotel is very immigrant friendly and very run down and I did not fancy any of the few takeaways I passed. You can walk to the nearest Metro station Bougainville in about 15-20 mins and catch the clean fast cheap train to the city centre with only one easy change if you want to get to the port. However keep an eye on your things in the station I even witnessed some not local looking people climbing over the barriers to get to the train but I guess its probably the easiest barrier some of these people have had to get over. Also coming back in the dark I did not feel very safe and I have been to Iraq and Afghanistan,. the streets were unlit and by the burnt out cars and rubbish laying about just gave a bad feeling. But this review is about the hotel and if you are on a budget use it.

Nice enough, but very basic.

We stayed here for one night, during the Euro's, but was not a pleasant experience before we arrived. We booked 3 weeks in advance, expecting a rush of bookings, and received confirmation of the two twin rooms we needed. However 2 days prior to our arrival, I was informed that the hotel could no longer honour the booking. Bookings.com offered another two rooms at another hotel in La Valentine, then one room each at the two hotels, then finally 3 single rooms back at the original hotel. The final booking only going through 6 hours prior to departure. The hotel is a new development and is in the north of Marseille. Fairly convenient to the end of the M2 metro line, or a 35 mins walk from St Charles station. The rooms were small and basic. Due to it being a new hotel, the rooms were clean and tidy. No mini bar or tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms we had. Breakfast was average, and probably better to get breakfast in a cafe etc. Not the most picturesque part of town, although sadly not much of Marseille is. It was ok for a nights stay, but I doubt I would stay here for anything more than 2 nights.
