Suggest Avoid - NOT at Intercontinental Standards, Poor service

I LOVE Intercontinental. The best hotel stays of my life have been at Intercontinental hotels. This is NOT one of those hotels. It's woefully below Icon standards or even a basic hotel standard. I suggest you look elsewhere in Medellin. 1. No concierge - First 5 star hotel I've ever stayed at without a concierge. From GM to Front Desk to Doorman, no one seems to care or be competent in providing even basic service requests. Often they were heard and then just ignored - via email or in person. 2. HVAC - The HVAC system only cooled. So the room became cold. It took 2 days to fix and I was woken up at 7am. 3. Uninvited door knocks - 7am. Person came to room at 7:15 for an issue that was not mine 4. "Old smell" - much of the hotel has a musty scent that comes when areas are not cleaned and humid. It occurs when things are old and not cared for. 5. Multiple service requests ignored or forgotten - from GM to front desk to bellman, a request such as "where to eat" or "how to book a rental car" were heard and then either ignored or forgotten. This is extremely frustrating. You can believe me or not, but I"m not a high maintenance guest. I'm a loyal IHG customer for the past 10 years. This location is just SO below normal Intercon or IHG hotel quality that I feel compelled to write. The reviews noting the remote character of the hotel are accurate, you will not be walking to other parts of Medellin from the hotel. On the upside, the property is neat. Nice pool. Rooms are spacious. Good views. Definitely felt safe. My advice is to consider Airbnb's in the El Poblado area. Walking is useful and it's a great part of Medellin. But do NOT stay at this hotel.
A great experience

Good location. Great service. You will have to take taxi to move around the city and to go to the touristic spots but it’s worth it. The pool is nice and breakfast is good. El Poblado is the best area to stay in Medellín.

Throughly enjoyed our first visit to Medellin, thanks to the excellent staff and especially the concierge, Jesus (spoke good English) who set us up with several excellent tours and resturant suggestions. We enjoyed a message at the spa. They offer an large workout room, several restaurants. Hugh heated pool... Beautiful setting in a good area. Would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.
