Charming haven in Merida

We arrived late on the first night and were welcomed by Nayeli, who checked us in most efficiently. Located in a quiet street a short walk from the historic centre, the hotel is a colonial house converted into an 8-room inn. The front door opens straight into what looks like a private living room, beautifully furnished with just a desk for the receptionist, and going through there is a patio with luxuriant plants, a small pool, an open air terrace for breakfast and a kitchen opposite. Our room (No 5) was spacious and comfortable, and always spotlessly clean, with ample storage, two large double beds and a hammock - the Mayas do love their hammocks. We particularly liked the excellent lighting, both bedside, alcove and ceiling spots. The decor was attractive, with painted walls and a pretty tiled washbasin. As it was February, we slept with just the ceiling fan and did not have to turn on the air conditioning.Breakfast included fruit, toast with butter and jam, and freshly cooked eggs or pancakes. The staff were friendly and professional; Rene helped with the breakfast as well as manning the reception, while Argelia, who speaks excellent English, offered good advice on local sights and activities. We spent four days touring and three days in Merida. We felt perfectly safe, and Merida has plenty of cultural attractions. It was always nice to come back to the hotel and cool off in the pool, which we usually had to ourselves. We would certainly recommend Marionetas to friends.
Great Location & Spacious Room

Had a great stay at Marionetas, room #3 was excellent. Located upstairs on a corner room which gets a great cross breeze and is very quiet. Friendly helpful staff, good simple breakfast with a different choice every day. Our favorite bar "La Negrita" is at the end of the block. Great to relax in the room and listen to Cuban music !! Have heard some people complain the bar is loud but shuts down every night by 11pm. Great place to stay will return.
Beautiful hotel, even nicer staff

I stayed in the Hotel Marionetas for one week while in Merida for work. The hotel itself is beautiful and quaint, it has lots of charm. My room was exceptionally clean and the bed was very comfortable, and although I was there in November the ceiling fan and air conditioning made my stay even more comfortable. Breakfast in the mornings was delicious, with an option of something sweet (e.g. pancakes or waffles) or savoury (e.g. eggs however you like them), with fruit and coffee and fresh orange juice. The chef is a lovely woman who is very accommodating, and very good t what she does! I will be returning to Merida in the future for work and will definitely be staying in the Hotel Marionetas. The location is perfect, the hotel is beautiful and comfortable, and the staff are incredibly helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend staying here if you get the chance.
Best hotel, staff and food in Merida

I stayed at this hotel with a friend in July 2019. The location is perfect, less than a ten minute walk to the centre of the city. The hotel was the highlight of my stay in Merida. It was spotlessly clean, boasted lovely furnishings, a super comfortable bed, air con, ample storage space, a spacious shower and excellent toiletries. The breakfast was the star of the show. Prepared freshly every morning by the talent chef, Yara. I recommend her delicious pancakes. Yara was friendly, attentive and professional. We enjoyed our chats. In addition to Yara, the receptionist, René was a perfect host. We also enjoyed chatting with the manager, Argelia who advised us on travel plans. All in all, this recently renovated hotel is fantastic value for money. Be sure to check it out.
Hotel Marionetas, Mérida

We had a lovely stay in the relaxed atmosphere of this small hotel:spacious well appointed perfectly clean room with air con and comfortable bed. The pool is a welcome feature in the heat and is mostly empty. The staff are helpful and the breakfasts taken in the shady garden courtyard are just what you need to start the day. Would thoroughly recommend it. In fact we returned because we felt so at home there!
