We are San Franciscan’s who like to hotel from Tahoe to Monterey. When in Monterey the Intercontinental clement is our favorite destination. The service is exceptional especially now that the full staff has returned for example the valets. Dinner at the C bar and a champagne flight tasting was a wonderful way to start our staycation. The food was exceptional the head chef greeted us and bartender Devon provided details to our tasting to help us understand the different flights. Listening to the live guitarist topped our evening. The Monterey Aquarium is in the backyard of the hotel and you hear the ocean surf and abundant sea life with the patio door open, which is a huge plus for guests who enjoy open windows and fresh air. We can’t wait to return.

Great location, great suite, but what really made our stay so special was the receptionist Dana. My boyfriend reserved our room for the weekend prior to arrival for Dec 3-5. When arriving we were told our reservation was only booked for the 4-5. From driving hours to this location, and it being nearly 3am, this was not how we expected/wanted to start out trip. We sit on the phone with the man who took our reservation and he was clueless/helpless on how to help up with our situation. Dana called the man individually and took lead to resolve the issue completely. Dana sat on the phone for almost an hour fixing a problem that she didn’t make, creating the most exceptional customer service we had. Had Dana given up and directed us to solve the issue with the clueless man who made our reservations, we would’ve cancelled our gold membership with Intercontinental and left to a different hotel due the frustration of the man who took our reservation. We finally settle into our ocean front suite and are having an outstanding, unforgettable stay. Would definitely recommend to our friends/family.

Exceded all expectations! First time here. Have stayed at several of the top hotels in the area. Will be coming back to this one! Flawless, from check in to check out. Valet, lobby, amazing rooms. Special thank you for Michael, front desk. Will be asking for you I return. :-)

My now-husband and I planned our wedding for Monterey, California as many of our families live close to the Monterey peninsula. My brother and my sister-in-law always stay at the intercontinental for a staycation for their anniversary and told us we absolutely had to book a stay for our wedding night. Because they raved about it, we decided to go ahead and splurge on a 2 night stay before we headed off to our honeymoon. The only disappointing part of our stay was that I had called ahead to inquire regarding an early check in to the hotel since the day of we would be busy getting ready for the wedding and we were told it would be no problem and they would give us a call as soon as we were ready to check in the morning of the wedding. We had a plan in place to get checked in before too many festivities began for the day. Just some background information, we really didn't want to add an additional night before the wedding as we were staying separately with our bridal parties and it really didn't make sense to book the hotel room if no one was staying there the night before, especially with weekend rates being so high. On the day of the wedding, I never received the phone call to check in and the day got away from me as we were both pretty busy. Then as our wedding reception was ending, I started receiving phone calls from the intercontinental asking if we were still planning on checking on or if they should let the room go. As I was told they notated my stay was for our night of the wedding and we could have early check in, it was pretty disappointing and frustrating since this hotel is highly acclaimed and having to explain the situation again during the phone call. Not only that, but no staff member apologized for the inconvenience. This added unneeded stress to our wedding day since we had to figure out our luggage situation at that point right before our wedding ceremony and reception. Aside from that, we had a deluxe king room with a fireplace and partial ocean view. It was a really nice room and we enjoyed the fireplace and sitting and watching the ocean. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom featured a sunken tub and glass shower. I wish we had extended our stay for one additional day to really enjoy the amenities of the hotel. Overall, it was a nice stay and I would definitely say we would enjoy coming back for a stay-cation but overall wasn't very impressed with the situation regarding check-in. However, I would stay here again possibly for a future anniversary or special occasion.
Nostalgic Hotel and Location

Nice looking hotel pulling up to the valet. Asks if you want self park or valet for a hefty $34 or $45 in the off-season. Is it too much to ask for a reasonable valet cost based on no housekeeping and other services. These rates are big city rates. Anyway, check in was fairly easy as we had 3 days using points. I realize an upgrade is not always available but when I am checking in next to the person who paid cash at the front desk and they say they upgraded his room to water view but they do not have an upgrade for me, I suspect it is because of points reservation of the discretion of the front desk clerk… but for the front desk staff, listen to what is happening around you. Location is convenient to everything you want to see in this area. You can walk or drive but won’t take much time. Room itself was standard but clean and tidy, no complaints. Having to request towels, water, etc gets old but that is expected at this time. Staff was friendly and helped with suggestions for day trips and dining. Nespresso machine for morning coffee was appreciated.
