Highly Memorable and Warm Service

Reviewed 21 november, 2021

Out of the dozens of Marriotts we stayed in, the Monterey Marriott is already one of the most memorable ones for one simple reason, and his name is Craig (I believe Craig Butterfield?), who works at the front desk. Many features blend together, after so many different hotels, but Craig just had this pleasant, warm demeanour that instantly made us feel better after a long day of travelling. We didn’t ask for anything fancy, nor were there any special circumstances of our stay. But you know that warm feeling you get from talking to a lovely, optimistic and cheerful friend you enjoy talking to? Craig inspires it easily within short, routine interactions. His customer service is top notch, and we hope that Marriott gives him a raise.

Great choice

Excellent property and hotel and location walking distance to shops and restaurants. pets are allowed but are extra. The staff and service were great. i would recommend this hotel, especially in the busy summer season. The rooms were updated and comfortable, even with a pet. Underground parking for a fee is a plus when traveling.

Great experience

Beautiful view, very helpful staff, great rooms and super fast internet service (I was on a work trip so internet connection was very important). The restaurant on site had great food. The only downside of it was no room service. I’d totally stay here again.

Location but that is it

My sister and I recently stayed at the Monterey Marriott and it was nothing like Marriotts I have stayed at in the past and I have stayed at many including the County Hall right smack in the perfect spot in London. That was fabulous. At any rate this Monterey Marriott was in a great location. Easy walking to the places we wanted to go. However the beds had huge indentations we found ourselves sunk in, very uncomfortable. Even the CY by Marriott has better beds. They were hard and old, or had way to much use. No extra blankets in the closet either. There was also a terrible chemical smell in the lobby and hallways. Then the elevator was not working and we were on a high floor. Our biggest dissapointment besides the beds was the luke warm dirty hot tub. We were looking forward to having a nice time and relaxing in the hot tub and it was just warm. We were in and out as a bandaid floated up from the bottom. I was not impressed with this property. Wish we could have had a different experience as it is very seldom my sister and I get a chance to get a way for a sister mini vacation. :(

Average hotel in an above average town

I was surprised that this property is such a high level on the Bonvoy Reward System. It is a very solid hotel, but nothing like the other Category 7 Hotels. It is located right downtown and the convention center. You are a ways away from the touristy Warf area. The rooms were fine, albeit nothing special. Valet was excellent. Front desk was fine too. Hot Tub was broken, but work out room and pool were located right in the center of the property mostly outside. I do not think I would go back to Monterrey again, but if I did, I would certainly stay at this property. Not a lot of great hotels in the town.
