We love this hotel. We live in Tennessee, but my husband's family still lives in Morgantown so we try to visit monthly. We usually stay here or the Waterfront Place Marriott. Hotel Morgan has become our favorite, because it is convenient to our famiy, walking distance to downtown attractions and we enjoy Anvil & Ax. The bar has fantastic drinks and staff. One employee in particular, Kathy, is AMAZING. We have witnessed her professionalism twice and we commend how she tactfully navigated difficult conversations. In August, the bar was out of wine and a female patron was unhappy about this and made a scene about it. Kathy expertly difused the situation and provided drink alternatives. Last night there were several obnoxious inebriated individuals and Kathy again expertly navigated the situation. She is a FABULOUS bartender, professional and an asset to your team. She is one of the reasons we keep coming back!

I rate this a one because at least the bed and pillows were comfortable. My husband and I have stayed at many historic hotels and we were extremely disappointed with the Hotel Morgan. They apparently renovated in 2020 and with that, removed almost all of the historic charm. We were in Rm.403 and it was very small for 2 people. The air conditioner protrudes 2 and a half feet from the wall. There is no room for the luggage rack unless you want to block the path between the TV and the bed so we had to put one suitcase on the desk and one on the chaise in the corner. The bathroom is very small. No place to put your shower toiletries except for a small wire shelf big enough for a bar of soap. No place to hang your wash cloth in the shower, no foot pedestal so ladies can shave their legs, the shower door kept sliding open, no vent/fan so it gets very hot and the moisture has no where to go. The sink is outside the bathroom and the counter is high. I am 5'3 and the counter was well above my waist, making it difficult to lean over the sink when brushing your teeth. The 50's style mini fridge is under said counter which is odd since guests will be drying their hair, doing makeup, etc right there. There is no iron or ironing board in the room only a steamer which does not work well especially if you're used to a traditional iron. Oh but they have an umbrella. Please! There are no tissues in the room or the bathroom. Because the sink and mirror are diagonally across from the bed, don’t expect to continue sleeping while the other guest is getting ready because the light over the sink area will keep them awake. I don't understand what the renovation team were thinking but this hotel was established in 1925, yet there's a 50's style mini fridge in the room with modern lights, furniture, sliding barn door to the bathroom, the color scheme is grey, black and white. It's a style mish mash of eras. This hotel could have been updated to the 1920's period and still have modern conveniences without losing the historic aspects. The renovations were done cheaply as well. The wall paper in the bathroom and behind the bed is already peeling and the floor tiles in the bathroom and elevator are broken or missing grout already. The ceiling light fixture was crooked. The stairwell has chipping paint and looks like it belongs in a crappy office building. There was a razor blade on the floor near the ice machine on the 5th floor. The windows in the hallways and rooms are filthy. There are no window treatments on the hallway windows. Thank God we only stayed one night! We stayed in Whitley city the night before and paid just under $60.00 with taxes and we had more room, better functionality, free parking, iron and board in the room and more historic charm than the Hotel Morgan. Not worth what we paid. They're trying to be an upscale hotel in a trashy dirty city and they're failing because the quality is not there. Very unhappy!
Nice Appearance but no functionality

For all the Hotel Morgan has in charm it lacks in functionality. The shower has one tiny basket for storage....enough for a bar of soap. There is no ledge or anything for ladies to step on to shave their legs. Also, the sink and mirror aren't in the same room as the shower, so you have to stand in the walkway into the room to use the sink. There is no iron or ironing board. The room is small enough without the a/c sticking out about 3 feet from the wall next to the bed. Lastly there is no place to put the luggage rack without tripping over it or blocking the bureau drawers. Thanks for the umbrella but we have our own. The clock takes up half of the side table. They focused too much on anesthetics instead if functionality. They didn't even get that right. A fridge from the '50's and modern furniture and a sliding barn door for the bathroom. Thank goodness we are only here for one night.
Lovers of older hotels

My wife and I were just passing through to Boston,MA from dropping our daughter off at school. We live in a historic home and have stayed in many historic hotels and resorts. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the workmanship and decor that was chosen for this hotel. It was very well done and did not look or feel like they just threw new paint on the walls. The detail of the restoration was amazing. Our room felt new but looked nostalgic. The bathroom and room amenities were excellent with everything We needed. The bed was super comfortable and I had a hard time getting up in the morning! Thank you for making this hotel so amazing!

Recently stayed at the Hotel Morgan, following it's breathtaking reno. This vintage 1925 hotel has been restored to it's lustrous heyday as the crown jewel of Morgantown's hospitality industry, where a dozen generations have celebrated weddings, anniversaries, and special occasions, including my Grandparent's 50th anniversary and my own 18th birthday, and the occasional VIP. Yet, completely reimagined for today's modern guest and business traveler. Casually elegant decor, modern amenities in the rooms w/spa showers and sumptuous towels, and a bright, well-equipped gym on the lower level. Special occasions remains the hotel's forte in the beautiful Brant Grand Ballroom, which features soaring windows and a focal fireplace. For more intimate dining or drinks with friends, there's the gleaming Anvil + Ax. The French Cocktail I ordered was a lovely, effervescent blend of sweet and tart. For breakfast, a flawless cappuccino. For lunch, you can't go wrong with either the brie and blueberry or the chicken, bacon and pimento cheese sandwich. The staff are charming and thoroughly professional. Women traveling solo will feel well cared for, safe, and secure. Everything I could have hoped for in a nostalgic reunion with this special establishment, that holds so many fond memories for me. Kudos to Wyndham for saving this local treasure.
