Lovely little place to stay just outside Reykjavík

Reviewed 6 february, 2023

We loved our 5 nights here. We had a bright, warm, comfortable room with nice snowy views from the window. Hotel reception is actually the bar, which feels like a proper cosy pub where the locals go. There's a comfortable guest lounge where you can peruse all the guide books, a garden with hot tub, and the beer is affordable at around £6 a pint. Breakfast is very good, with porridge, waffles, cheese and meats and the only food offered in the evening, lamb soup, is delicious and filing, though not cheap, like everything in Iceland. 20 mins on the no 15 bus gets you into town and there are places to eat near the hotel, with KFC just across the road. We would definitely return if we come back to Reykjavik.

Little gem

If you are looking for a small, friendly, quaint hotel then this is for you. Lovely atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble.. Anna and her team are very approachable and willing to point you in the right direction for just about anything. Bus 15 to Reykjavik stops right outside. There are a few places to eat locally although a couple were under refurbishment when we visited so used the local supermarkets and bakery just up the road. Breakfast is self serve with a choice of continental, toast, cereals, tea, coffee, juices and was absolutely fine. No meals served onsite so you need to ensure you are aware of this on booking. It wasn't a problem for us. KFC is directly opposite if you feel inclined... with better portions and cleanliness than you will ever find in the UK. Quirky reception rooms and gorgeous coffee shop attached to the hotel itself. Rooms are clean and tidy. I have to admit they're very warm but welcome after a day in the snow. Please be aware there is nothing wrong with the drains and the water may smell funny.. but if you had done your homework you would realise this is down to the sulphur in the water. Don't buy bottled water... the tap water is amazing... Plenty of trips pick up and drop off at the hotel and if not easy to find Bus 15 on stand C from town. Loved my Iceland experience and will certainly be coming back again.

Friendly but a long way from city

Reviewed 3 february, 2023

The host, Anna, was so lovely and friendly and helped us if we needed something but really that was the only positive thing about the hotel. We had booked a family room as there were 3 of us sharing, the family rooms say they have a mountain view which we thought would be lovely and more chance of seeing the lights rather than in the city, unfortunately when we got there our room was a family room with a balcony but overlooked the carpark and KFC, really not worth being so far away from the city for, the mountain views were at the other side of the hotel. We asked Anna about this on the first day but were told that the rooms were on the ground floor for the moountain views which we would have much preferred to have than overlooking KFC, she did advise that we would get the sunset but as we were on trips at that time of night, it didn't really affect us. The bathroom had a very strong smell of sulphur/drains too but not sure if this is an ongoing smell or just a temporary problem. Breakfast had a choice of continental foods and staff were very friendly and helpful. Coffee shop was very reasonable and lovely and nothing too much trouble. As we had gone to this hotel for the views, we knew that we would have to travel by taxi or bus into the city for the boat trips and to get home from the golden circle trip as the hotel is about 20 minutes from the city or about (30/40 mins on the bus), the buses are regular and fairly reasonably priced as long as you know where in the city to catch them back but we had to get a taxi after our Northern Lights boat trip and this cost around £45. This holiday was for my sons 21st birthday and we were so looking forward to seeing the views from the room so were so disappointed that these views were of KFC, we would have much rather been nearer to the city had we known this was going to happen and it would have cost a lot less to do this due to the travelling. There are limited trips that will actually collect you from the hotel and we didn't find any that dropped you back at the hotel afterwards. Overall very disappointed, a nice big room but with awful views.

Overall good

Very welcoming and comfortable however was missing a fridge in our room and the beds weren't too comfortable as 2 singles instead of a double so the misses kept slipping down the middle staff were incredibly helpful and friendly could not have done any better
