Functional Efficiency Hotel Near Beach

Reviewed 9 july, 2014

This is an ok hotel with limitations. The pluses: Stayed for the US-Ghana World Cup match, and the hotel was packed. Even with the crowd, the breakfast was plentiful, varied, and efficiently stocked throughout the morning. At night, it was quiet. Room cleaning was slow, but competently done. It is located a few blocks from the beach, and requires crossing a busy street which is fine for adults, but would be a concern for families. It is about mid-way in the Ponta Negra area so there are many restaurants and shops within a short walk. The beach is very large, long sandy beach. During the day it is quite nice -- well populated, but not over run. Plenty of chair rentals, drink and snack vendors, etc., but not over run. It seems that there are more beach front restaurants a moderate walk to the south -- nearby , the restaurants on the beach are within the hotels and didn't appear accessible to the public there were plenty of places to eat just off the beach). Some of the negatives: staff is a bit indifferent to any request. No English spoken and no responses to English or Portuguese emails (we were able to contact the hotel by phone in Portuguese). There is a kitchenette, but with no equipment, cutlery, etc., so it's not of much use unless you are making an extended stay to make it worth buying those things. Worst event was the electronic lock on my room failing, which seemed to be a common problem, but in my case they were unable to unlock the door! I was able to enter the room only after a skinny staff member crawled through a small window in the kitchenette.

Great Location, Large Rooms, Poor Wifi and Often NO Hot Water

Reviewed 17 june, 2014

The positives are the location, just at the top of the hill from Ponta Negra beach, the breakfast, the lobby, the views from the nice balcony, and the cleanliness of the room. The negatives are the lack of consistent hot water (usually cold in the mornings, but just COMPLETELY unpredictable - and in my three day stay, the "hot" water was more cold than hot), very weak wifi, hard bed and hard and flat pillows, and difficulty getting a taxi at the front door. Having been completely honest, I would say this hotel is a decent value. It was much less expensive during the World Cup than many other hotels that seemed around the same quality. However, if a hot shower and strong internet are important, stay away.....neither was a reality during my stay. If you can tolerate a cold or luke warm shower and weak internet, you may be impressed with the location, pool, breakfast and cost compared to other places in the area.

Gostei da vista/ Liked the view

Reviewed 14 april, 2013

Good for short staing. The kitchen is smal but enough - you just need to ask them to bring the stove, cutlery, plates and pans - no extra fees. The internet sucks, very slow. You can berly get a google reserch, depending of the time of the day. We liked the view. Breakfast is average.

It's fine if you enjoy barking dogs

Reviewed 6 july, 2011

The hotel in general is nice but the rooms are a bit stark - not quite the 4-star rating one expects in the US. The staff is helpful and friendly but very few speak any English. The main problem is the "dog". If you enjoy being awakened every morning between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM by a loud barking dog, this is the place for you. The dog lives on a patio across from the hotel and barks for long periods of time with no letup. It doesn't matter what floor your room is on, or if the patio door to the small balcony is open or closed, unless you're a very sound sleeper, the "dog" greets you every morning. The desk clerk said the hotel manager knows the owner of the property and would speak to him about the problem, but nothing changed in the 10 days we were there.

Not so confortable, nice location.

Reviewed 21 january, 2011

It's also a flat, so you have a kitchen and a room with fridge, air conditioned and balcony with a nice view of Morro do Careca where the sun rises every morning. Free cable internet inside the room (wi-fi at reception area), pool and covered parking lot are included. The breakfast comes with cakes, breads, eggs, fruits, tropical juices and local flavours (tapioca, canjica, cuscuz). Bad things are: the shower never gets hot even after I asked the reception desk in four different times, old towels, old mattress, not confortable at all. Well located, at walk distance from major restaurants (don't miss Camarão - there are two and you should try both of them, Pinga-Fogo, Veleiro and Farofa D'Água).
