Worth the wait

We have been talking about staying at Chewton Glen for 20 years, so it only seemed fitting to visit on our 20th wedding anniversary. And it was certainly worth the wait! The staff are all friendly, welcoming and super efficient. They seem to be able to track you down even when you don’t tell them who you are or where you are going! The hotel is beautifully maintained and so warm and comfortable. Our room was spacious, described as a classic room but really a suite larger than many we’ve stayed in previously. The bar and restaurants (The Dining Room and Kitchen) were excellent. The spa was well equipped and we would recommend the walk down to and along the coast, simply stunning. This place is perfection and lives up to its fabulous reputation.

We always have a wonderful stay here. The facilities are second to none and it is in a beautiful location with a short walk to the sea. If we occasionally have an issue they sort it out very quickly and professionally. One of our favourite UK Hotels.

Wow what a fantastic hotel , the location, accommodation, facilities and service are all outstanding . The staff are all amazing , so attentive without being over fussy, and a lot of them were very young but so polite and approachable. We ate at James Martins Kitchen one night and were lucky enough to meet James who was in the kitchen cooking that evening , he is such a nice down to earth guy and he came over and chatted with us which was fun. All the staff in The Kitchen were lovely and we had a lovely girl serving us who was quite young but very good at her job . The Kitchen menu is very varied from pizzas to burgers to steaks and excellent fish , a good range of prices so accessible to many . The quality of food in The Kitchen restaurant was superb . We ate in the main hotel restaurant on another night and it was excellent , great menu to choose from and all beautifully cooked and presented , again superb staff, very beautiful ambient setting and quite intimate , we sat in one of the many lounges after relaxing by the open fire which was very Christmas's. All the Christmas Dec's were up and looked magnificent as did the grounds outside which were lit with many fairy lights. The spa area and pool in the hotel were superb, great facilities. Breakfast was plentiful with a massive buffet choice and also other items that could be picked from a menu and cooked fresh. Our "room" was fabulous , an entrance hall with separate bathroom with double shower, double sinks , big bath in and a separate room with toilet and bidet in , beautifully decorated and lovely Noble Isle toiletries provided , dressing gowns and slippers. The bedroom had a seating area with a sofa and table , writing desk and chair and also a comfy armchair and footstool. Plenty of wardrobe space and a fridge and safe . We had a garden room which had a balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the gardens so very pretty at night when all lit up. Overall everything was perfect , very very big and comfy beds , excellent room cleaning and replenishing of towels etc , homemade biscuits and fruit, so we would highly recommend it all .
Really great food and amazing service!

The food was so tasty, I was blown away by the salad! The dining room staff were very attentive, always filling up our water glasses and offering drinks when we had finished. Beautiful Christmas decorations topped it off, I highly recommend Chewton Glen for a delicious meal.
5 star prices, not service.

Beautiful setting, our suite was fabulous and so was the hot tub! Most service was good but I was incredibly disappointed that not a single member of staff (except in the spa) wore a face covering. Not one. I found it massively disrespectful, especially as my husband and I wore face coverings in all communal areas except when seated for food or drinks. The bar was also badly run, which is a huge shame. Young and poorly trained staff. Drinks served in inappropriate glasses. One day we ordered drinks from room service and were told they had run out of ice. I was served a Bloody Mary that was basically tomato juice and vodka with a stick of celery shoved in it. Another night, the glass I was served my drink in was dirty. Not 5 star at all - not even any crystal glasses! The spa was nice but the pool area was dirty on several occasions. Aside from a below average meal on our first night, the vegetarian and vegan food in the restaurant was excellent. A good job as the much vaunted 'Kitchen' restaurant had a ridiculously limited menu. The only vegetarian choice was a pizza and there was NO Vegan option! I would expect far more than slabs of meat and potatoes from a decent chef these days. Overall, we enjoyed our stay - mainly because of the private hot tub - but there are definite issues that need addressing - especially considering the prices being charged!
