Nice Visit

Clean, small, efficient room, safe environment, and helpful staff, especially Tina. Will be coming back again. The location is near the West Shore Expressway, which makes it convenient to getting around western Staten Island.

Stayed here one night. Rooms are small but VERY clean and comfortable. It appeared to be freshly remodeled. I previously stayed at the Fairfield next door and I was not ad pleased with that hotel. Definitely give this Holiday in a try. We will stay there again.

2nd time construction issues

Reviewed 23 september, 2019

I am an IHG Elite Gold member. In ONLY stay at Holiday Inn Express. For me to write a bad review says it was really bad. Last time I stayed at the HI-X in Staten Island, they were going through major construction and the experience was terrible. So, when I made my reservation, I asked if the construction was complete. The reservation line assured me, without any caveat that the construction was done. Here is what I ran into when I got there: 1. I wanted my reservation switched from my personal credit card to my business credit card. The front desk help at 7:00 did not know how to do that and had to tell me to come back at 11:00 p.m. when the night guy came on duty (or come back before 7:00 a.m.) 2. I went to my first room and the locking system did not work. I had to go back downstairs, and they gave me a 2nd room. 3. I went to the 2nd room and the air-conditioning was off, and the room thermostat showed that the room was at 80 degrees. Nothing I could do with the thermostat would turn the air conditioner on. I called the front desk, they sent up a very surly maintenance man who told me I should have gone to the actual unit and turned it on there (most hotels do not want you to touch the units if there is an in-room thermostat). When I asked why there was not a label on the thermostat telling me what to do, the maintenance man, in a very surly manner, said "that's up to management." 4. Final straw. I tried the TV. It did not work except for a few minor channels clearly gotten my antenna. I went to the front desk (AGAIN). They told me that the TV vendor was new and was still putting in the system and that some rooms did not have TV. WHAT!!!! A hotel room without TV!!!! I could not watch Sunday night Football or Monday night football. I actually give the hotel 1 star because all of the help was very courteous, and "tried" to make me feel better. But there was nothing they could do. Bottom line: They deliberately lied when they told me there was no construction, they did not tell me when I made reservations that there was not TV, and even when I checked in, they did not tell me that there was no availability of major channels on the TV. HOW DO THEY DO THAT? When I stay in a hotel I only want four things, cleanliness (they are good there); a good bed (they are good there), good internet (they are acceptable there) and television ... zero. Again, this is the 2nd time this particular hotel has burned me with construction issues that they were not honest about. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!! In spite of the fact that I am a die hard Holiday Inn Express guy, I will NEVER in this hotel again. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND GOING TO THE FAIRFIELD INN which is right next door (plus it actually has a functioning restaurant). p.s. the only thing they would "offer" me to make up for my "inconvenience" was a 500 point bonus on my IHG Gold account ... big deal!!!! :( :( :(

Good Place to Sleep with Some Minor Inconveniences

Reviewed 20 july, 2019

The 5-floor hotel is situated in the middle of three hotels. The parking lot was always full during the evenings. It has one elevator. Lobby is small. It had free USA Today newspaper. Free WIFI was fast; I did not notice any pauses. Breakfast area is located one floor below the lobby. it offered the standard HIE breakfast. The room had microwave, refrigerator, and a k-cup pod coffee maker. The sink area did not have enough counter space to put all the toiletry stuff. The shower did not have enough pressure; and hot water was not hot enough for my taste. The worse part was the high efficiency toilet that dispensed very little flushing water; it was prone to clog. The tapping control on the desk lamp was not consistent. The window binds with pulling chains worked well. Air conditioning unit was extremely quiet. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. The locations of on/off switches of bed lighting were not intuitive. Sound insulation was poor because I could hear noises of the adjacent room.
