Switch and bait - beware!

My wife and I attended a social affair in NYC and booked a King Studio on the hotel website. On arrival we were told we were "upgraded" to a Queen Suite. This upgrade was not presented as an offer - we were assigned to this room. And what a room (2404)! It was next to an equipment room (my guess is the elevator) so that our bedroom was noisy until late in the night, beginning again with noise about 6:30 AM. The room was hot - the thermostat seemed not to work and the "engineer" we were told would be right up to fix the problem never arrived. We had to turn on the AC to combat the heat only for it to make a VERY LOUD noise every time it activated. So why the 3 star rating given the noise and heating prevented us from sleeping well? The reception staff were polite. The room was clean. The room while laid out in a quirky fashion was spacious.

This is a very comfortable hotel. We stayed in a suite with the convenience of a kitchen. Nice location with nearby access to the subway, Central Park, museums, and restaurants. Our suite was in excellent condition. Good floor plan. Helpful staff.

Washington DC: was told have bar and restaurant when I booked, but these were closed

Reviewed 12 november, 2021

Was told has restaurant and bar when I booked week prior, but they were all closed. They said I had to pay $45 a day for parking, but parking next door for $15 a day. Complained, but said all agents know the above and tell all customers. That was a boldfaced lie. Did nothing at all regarding complaints. Astronomical rate for average room. DO NOT STAY HERE. Biggest ripoff ever!!!

BEST hotel in NYC!

Reviewed 11 november, 2021

I highly recommend the Beacon, which has become my home away from home when I’m in NYC. I look forward to staying here every year, especially during the NYC marathon, and make sure to stay for at least a week. I just left a couple days ago, and as usual, I was very sad to leave and am already planning my return stay. There’s so much I love about the Beacon: 1) Staff: Each person who works here is EXCEPTIONAL - most have been at the Beacon for at least the 6 years that I’ve been coming, and probably longer. They are all so warm, genuinely helpful, professional and incredibly service- oriented. This is NOT your typical corporate-owned hotel but rather a place that will welcome you and care for you. Dawn Matthews, Reservations Manager (for the Beacon’s own in-house reservations department, not an impersonal off-site phone bank) has helped me find the best room for the best rate to meet my needs for many years, 2) Security: I feel safe and very comfortable staying here as a solo female traveler. 3) Clean: The common areas are meticulous, as was my suite, which was thoroughly cleaned daily by the world class housekeeping staff 4) Convenience: it’s rare to find a NYC hotel room with a kitchenette, which is such a wonderful feature! With its spacious living area and kitchenette, I feel like I have a great NYC apartment when I stay at the Beacon. The best NYC markets are right across the street (Fairway, Citarella, Trader Joe’s) and are perfect for delicious prepared meals and more. 5) Location: Hotel Beacon is perfectly situated on the Upper West Side, a very safe neighborhood, 3 blocks from the subway, 3 blocks from Central Park, and close to many great restaurants, bars, bakeries, shops, and museums. I highly recommend the Beacon and can’t wait to return for my next visit to my home away from home! P.S. All the rooms are great but deluxe suites above 15th floor are my favorite - very spacious and super quiet!

We have just returned home from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Beacon and our first visit to NYC since the pandemic. This was our 2nd stay at the Beacon. Ever aspect of our stay was wonderful. The room was immaculately clean and attended daily by housekeeping. The staff was uniformly helpful, courteous, and professional. The entire operation is an example of great management. We will most definitely stay at this hotel again and again! Thanks to all the staff.
