Great location
Great location, right in the heart of Times Square and Broadway. Accessible to various subway lines. 5 min walk to subway to JFK. The room we booked, we didn't get, but the double room we were given was big enough for two people. The room was clean and serviced daily. Considering the location the hotel and room was very quiet. Only complaint we had was, the $7 day service fee was charged directly to our credit card without our knowledge or approval meaning we were charged international fees on top of that. Had we have been asked how we wanted to pay, we would have paid in USD to avoid the extra cost. Overall would highly recommend this hotel, and would definitely stay here again when in NY next.
Great Location . . .
This hotel was ideally placed for my first visit to New York: conveniently placed for 49th and 50th Street subways, Times Square, restaurants and bars, and 24-hour Duane Reade or CVS drugstores. Right . . . It really is a little bit out of date, with paint peeling on doors and dodgy light fittings. Having said that, housekeeping did a first-rate job - I returned each evening to a spotless room. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and the shower was powerful with plenty of very hot water. The elevator was a bit unreliable at times, but a bit of a period piece. The front desk staff were always helpful and courteous, especially Beau (sorry if I misspelled your name, buddy). End of, a comfortable and well-situated bolthole for the centre of this amazing city.
If you want to be central and for a short time only...
It was our first time in New York and we wanted to be in the heart of the action which is great for a night or two but we stayed five nights which was far too much and after a few nights, we wished we had booked somewhere else but for a shorter stay for those wanting a feel for NYC, this would work better. The rooms are old and rundown but functional and the shower was pretty decent once you got it going. The main downside was that even though it was January and cold outside, our room (on the 7th floor) was incredibly stuffy and hot. We were boiling at night and had to use the air con which seems mad for January! It was an old, noisy and unclean air con and we slept badly between being kept awake by the air con or sweating it out. We also didn’t like that there was a $2 charge per piece for leaving our luggage in the hotel for a few hours which I’m not sure is standard for New York but we haven’t experienced elsewhere and didn’t sit well with me. All in all, fine for a night or two in central NYC but not recommended beyond that or for those who can’t function on little sleep.
Christmas in NYC
The location of this hotel was great for me-walking distance from Port Authority bus terminal and Rockefeller Center, Radio City, etc. The hotel itself has seen better days. The day I arrived the elevator was out of service. Some construction was going on and there was a pallet of bricks in the hallway between lobby and elevator. Price was ok.
