Great central hotel

Reviewed 2 july, 2022

Book via British Airways for our 25th wedding anniversary trip to NYC. Chose this hotel as it was central and having never been to NYC before we wanted somewhere in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Empire States building, Rockefeller centre and Central Park are within walking distance. Check in and check out was simply and hassle free. Room ( City King) was clean, if a little dated. Only downside to the room was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities but as I don’t drink hot drinks this didn’t bother me. Housekeeping came every morning and the bed linen was changed regularly during our 7 nights stay. Hotel bars were friendly and the choice of drinks was vast. The breakfast buffet in the executive lounge set us up for a days site seeing Overall a pleasant experience and would recommend.

Really good except poor breakfast quality and no tea/coffee facility in room.

A large well located, well managed hotel. Compared to other hotels (during Covid) I noticed the rooms well cleaned. Great gym. I would give this 5 stars except for two issues: a) there is no coffee/tea making facilities in the room. You need to buy it from the lobby area which is really annoying, b) the breakfast buffet was quite poor quality and value…. it’s more like the sort of breakfast you would get in a 3.5 star hotel. 5 weeks earlier I stayed at the Hilton Martinique (also Midtown) which is my preference of the two, because it had in room tea/coffee and the breakfast was better.

Very disappointed

I have to say I expected much more from hotel in Manhattan, especially Hilton hotel in location like this. First disappointed was when we entered room. Room was very old fashioned , there was drawers to put some clothes in which stink really bad, I felt like I entered my grandmas closet, had to spray each drawer with fabric freshener so we could unpack our clothes . Next disappointed and really big one was bathroom!!! When you check pictures when booking, bathroom advertised looks absolutely nice which was why we booked this hotel!! Well it’s absolutely nothing like that, bathroom in our room was teeny tiny, it wasn’t shower room as we expected it to be, it was tiniest bath I ever seen with shower curtain, sink was so small that every time you try use it, water splashes everywhere, towels was very small and when asked for bigger towels, answer was that’s biggest they have. Housekeeping was pretty poor, I’am aware that they are not supposed to move your belongings to clean, but bathroom cleaning I would hardly call “ cleaning” all they did was change towels and wipe floors a bit, jo proper cleaning. Bed duvet have no duvet covers!!! First time in my life I witnessed hotel use fitted sheets instead of duvet covers!! I was very uncomfortable to sleep like this as sheets was tangling in each other and at the end I end up covering with naked duvet. Hotel room didn’t even had kettle with tea or water bottles , you have to go down stairs and buy absolutely everything, I never seen this before, I even cheap hotels I stayed in past had simple kettle in room with tea bags and some instant coffee. Hotel have no proper restaurant to dine in. They do have small kitchen where you can grab sandwiches and drinks but no proper food. There was lounge area where you can grab some food but again it’s only sandwiches and salads, if you want proper food, you have to go out to restaurants which was very inconvenient as most places around required bookings . Whole hotel experience was absolutely disappointment, would never stay in this hotel again and wouldn’t recommend anyone, for the price they charge , you can definitely find better options!!

So Sad

This used to be my favorite hotel in NYC. No more! The resort charge is an insult to Diamond members! They now charge you $30 per day resort charge. This is not a resort. The charge covers internet fees, $10 per day of charges at the snack bar, and $20 per day at the bar. As a Diamond member, you get free high speed internet included. The $10 snack bar credit does not cover two coffees, which are free at the Diamond lounge. The $ bar fee gets you one overpriced drink you can get anywhere else for less. So, for me, as a Diamond member, the value of the resort credit is zero. This is an insult to loyal Diamond members. I am very angry!

Would definitely stay again!

Overall, perfect for a trip to New York! The location, rooms and overall facilities were fantastic, the reason for only 4 stars is down to a very lengthy (but friendly) check in, over 30 minutes and the inability to stream Netflix etc in the rooms. However that said, I would stay here again in a heart beat. We really loved our stay!
