Service is inversely proportional to the room rate

Not a good start. I arrived at 1, the room’s not ready, and the “Elite Members” check in lady was incredibly unhelpful - maybe you could offer to store the luggage I’m shlepping around-? I ate at the on-site restaurant, Bill’s Burgers. Worst burger sliders and chili-cheese fries I’ve ever had - stale buns, dried out, shriveled meat patties; the chili tasted like straight BBQ pork, and the whole thing was cold. When I checked on the room again at 2:45, the stone-faced lady at the “Elite” counter actually lectured me that the check-in time is 4:00. I asked about putting my luggage somewhere; she half-gestured towards the tree in the lobby & said I could leave it at the Bell Desk. I don’t see a Bell Desk, but I’m not going to risk further indifference by asking a question! …All this for the special rate of $420 per night - I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Really impressed with this facility. Very clean, well layed out and accessible. I also consider it very central to many parts amd activities of the city. The room(s) are slightly - but not by much - tighter than one anticipates -- it's NYC and real estate is valuable. Beds are so comfortable. Another balanced mattress of stiffness. Top was soft that your body can mold to it and then the next layer would be more stiff. Pillows I will say were a bit too soft and fluffy for my liking - but here's the the - it's all good and I was able to fluff the pilllow how I wanted it. Linens, oh the linens. Soft, clean, crisp, fresh and plenty long to tuck my feet and arms. Bathroom was decently sized that 3 people could easily be in there without hitting elbow. Bathroom linens are what have this a 5 star. They are thick, heavy duty and scratchy. I like scratchy bath linens over soft and fluffy ones because I feel like I get cleaner and dryer. Shower water pressure is sufficient....but the hot water takes a long time to get heated up (if you're into hot showers). T.V. is nice, clear clean picture. Plenty of channels to choose from. The gym is great. Cable machines, treadmills, free weights, Smith machine. Last but not least - Staff is incredible. Very kind. Helpful. Patient. Highly recommend this for travelers.
Felt like a dank, dark and depressing submarine

I was excited to spend two nights here in October 2021. As a Bonvoy Platinum member, my suite upgrade certificates were accepted and I was booked in a corner junior suite on the 31st floor - one of the nicest rooms on the property. This hotel is such a horrible disappointment. When stepping out of the elevator on the 31st floor, the hall is extremely dark and dank, reminiscent of a submarine. It was honestly creepy! I had a large NW facing corner room with fabulous views of the Hudson River and One World Trade. Other than the fine view, the room was quite ugly. The windows do not open and the HVAC system is extremely loud. You can hear lots of noise from the hallway and the bathroom is not soundproof either. The bathroom must have been renovated recently and offered an excellent shower. Overall, this property is depressing and dated. There is no outside space to enjoy like so many other nyc hotels seem to offer now. The concierge lounge is closed on the weekends. No joy or light is found at this hotel. The staff were nice enough but don’t come across as joyful. There is a Starbucks in the lobby that opens at 6:30 am. I cannot recommend this hotel and I will never return to this property. The hotel across the street (to the north) is far superior and typically offers slightly lower room rates.
Not so great service. Decent facilities.

Overall, the hotel has decent facilities and location. Close to subway and transportation. I was disappointed that they closed the lounge during weekend (btw it’s also only open in the morning on weekdays). Even worse, they didn’t provide any other breakfast options included in my benefit. They said they gave me some coupons and points, but no they didn’t! I can tell from own experience that the service doesn’t live up to Marriott reputation.

The desk staff was wonderful. At first we couldn’t find our reservation but with some perseverance and problem solving, we found it! When we came in from the pouring rain soaked to the bone, they sent up towels. The woman who cleaned our room was courteous and the doorman friendly. Rooms were modern decor and very clean. We walked all over Manhattan due to the ease of access. Would definitely stay again.
